my little boy is here UPDATED 5/7/07 with birth story
Daniel Frederick arrived Tuesday May 1, 2007 via c-section at 7:30pm, weighing in at 7 lbs 1 oz and 21-1/2 inches long. DH and I are so in love 
I just got home yesterday and I am still kind-of tired and settling in. I'll post pictures and my birth story soon.
UPDATE:
I need to preface my birth story by saying that my birth plan had been to have a natural child birth and prepared for it by taking Bradley method classes. I did not want to have a c-section and the fact that I had to have one was very upsetting to me at the time.
On Tuesday May 1st I drove myself to my 40 week check-up at the dr's office at about 1:30pm. DH had to work so I went on my own.
When my dr. examined me, I was only a finger tip dialated and the baby was still high. After checking me, he wanted to monitor the conditions of the fetal environment. (The machine monitored contractions and the baby's heart beat.) He didn't like what he was seeing on his monitor and told me that he wanted me to go to the hospital to be monitored.
At this point I kind-of lost it a little. The dr. had left the room and I just started crying hysterically. I called my DH on his cell phone, and I think I scared him a little because I was so upset that I could barely get a word out. Since he works about 40 minutes away and I was so upset, he called his mom and she came and got me and brought me to the hospital.
At the hospital, they hooked me up to the monitor again and my DH finally showed up. I was very very happy to see him. I just sat on this monitor for over an hour and they tracked my contractions and the baby's heart beat. I also had to press a button whenever the baby moved. I wasn't really feeling much movement while I was on the machine. However, I had felt a lot of movement in the car ride over, and I also hadn't eaten since noon. (It was now after 4pm.) The nurse also gave me ice chips and hooked me up to an IV.
My dr. arrived at the hospital some time after 5pm. He looked over the data from the monitor. He advised us that the baby's heart beat wasn't showing the variations that he wanted to see and that this could be a sign that something was wrong. He said that he wanted to examine me again--same results as at the appointment. A sonogram was also performed to check the level of amniotic fluid and the size of the baby. There was still a decent size pocket of fluid and they estimated the baby's weight at 8 lbs 1 oz.
The dr. was concerned with that the combination of the baby's heart rate and the decreased movement could signal something was wrong in the fetal environment. We discussed all of the different options with him, but he felt that he really needed to do a c-section. He said that he could not give me petocin since the baby hadn't dropped yet. He didn't want to give me cervadil because he felt uncomfortable waiting 12 hours and then administering petocin. After much discussion and tears on my part, I agreed to the c-section.
I went into the operating room at 7pm. In the operating room the nurses and anesthesiologist was very nice and had me laughing while they were prepping me for surgery. I was ready to go at 7:15pm- at this point, my DH entered the room. (I was so happy to see him.) And at 7:30pm, Daniel entered the world. I heard his first cry and my heart skipped a beat. And then I saw him, and they were just checking him out to make sure he was OK and my eyes welled up with tear-- but at this point they were tears of pure joy. Then my DH brought him over to me and he was absolutely beautiful and I fell in love.
The hardest part was that after the c-section, I had to go into recovering until my temperature increased to 97 degrees and I didn't actually get to hold my son until 11pm that night.
