my mom broke her wrist ! (questions about first aid kit regulations also)
We were at DD's birthday party on Saturday (rollerskating party) and this guy (who was FLYING around the rink) startled my mom and she fell.....and broke her right wrist !!
She went into shock (was all spacey and non-responsive) her wrist was SWOLLEN really bad and the rollerskating rink.....DIDN'T HAVE A FIRST AID KIT!!! No ace bandage, no splint board, nothing but band-aids !!!! When I asked for ice....the brought me over a bag with maybe about a cup of ice or so. Then they actually said something when my husband brought a cup of water over for my mom that drinks weren't allowed on the rink!!
Needless to say I was a little appaled at their responce. While they were very nice they were trying to rush to get her off the floor.
So now here's my "question of the day" .....Does anyone know if they are required to have some sort of first aid kit (other then band-aids) on hand? even if they aren't required to by any law....don't you think they should.
I am definatly planning on writing a letter to the corporate office because of that, and also because there was no one on the rink that worked there telling people to slow down, or to help the kids when they fell. Two kids at my daughter's party fell and while they weren't hurt they were crying and it took a few minutes before anyone really noticed.
I left with my mom to go to the hospital. My DH was there, DD's dad, my MIL and SIL, as well as my sister, her boyfriend. My DD wanted me to go with my mom and since my mom was the way she was I had to go because I am the only one who knows the details of my mom's medical history.
We were in and out of Mid-Island in a little under 4 hours !! My mom has a full cast on her arm....past her elbow for about 3 weeks, then she is going to have to have a smaller one for about 3 -4 weeks after that!! She is in good spirits....a little embarrassed but isn't in as much pain as we all anticipated.

i am not sure if they are required but..i would think that any place that offers physical activity should have one on hand and someone trained in first aid.....however, they may also have written somewhere that you "skate at your own risk" kind of thing....and not have to have that sort of stuff on hand.... i hope your mom recovers quick!!

I think that anything you put in writing should be done through a lawyer. JMO. To me, it's more about common sense, which says that there should be a first aid kit at a roller rink and that the rink should do some policing of skaters.
