My OB referred to her/my hospital as ghetto. Help me change!
Hi everyone!
I went to my first appt this week and met my OB and had all tests/sono, etc. Everything looks good!
But I can't shake the feeling that I wasn't thrilled with my OB or the hospital. She was very short with answers to my questions, had poor bedside manner, and actually referred to the hospital I'd be delivering in as 'too ghetto for Beyonce.' Wasn't really loving that......
I live in NYC and was hoping someone out there could recommend their practice and hospital in Manhattan. I'd really like a SMALL practice where someone will take time with me. This is my first child, and I don't want to feel rushed or uncomfortable with my hospital choice!!!!
Thanks so much!

Re: I think I want to change my OB/Hospital... Help?
I heard great things about spring OB/GYN PC.
I think an easy way to narrow down your search is looking for a hospital you want to deliver in and then finding a doctor who is affiliated with that hospital.

Re: I think I want to change my OB/Hospital... Help?
First off, I want to say that you need to be comfortable with your Dr. and hospital. I absolutely loved my dr, but hated the hospital. I went to the ER over the holidays because I was severly sick (convinced now that it was Norovirus) and the Dr. discharged me for dehydration and looked at me like I was a neurotic pregnant woman because I went in for throwing up. When I went back to my dr, she tells me I had a viral infection. After that, I was not at all comfortable with the hospital staff handling my baby. I am in Queens, and my original OB and hospital were in Queens. But I just switched to Dr. Klein who delivers at NSUH. So I can't help with the recommendation for the city. My friend is due on the 19th and is delivering in the city. So I can always ask her if you'd like.

You have to be comfortable with the doctor and the hospital. If you hate them now, it's going to come back to bite you later. You need to trust these people to take care of you, so if you don't.... RUN!

Started that route and was told the above!
Ugh.
I'll look into spring! Thanks!

eeek, what practice are you using? And what hospital was she referring to? I ask because I am in Manhattan. I would rec my practice, but it is not small - 5 doctors and you are not guaranteed to have your specific OB deliver your db.
It is Lexington OBGYN if you're interested. I see Dr. Ho and she's been great so far

I see Dr. Lily Wong who is based on 61st & 5th Ave and she delivers at St. Luke's Roosevelt on the west side. I absolutely love my OB/GYN and have been going to her for almost 10 years - she hugs me bye after each appt! She's so sweet and knowledgable, and has a wonderful bedside manner.

Re: My OB referred to her/my hospital as ghetto. Help me change!
Mt. Sinai is one of the best, if you go on their website it will give you list of drs. I was going to deliver there when I was pregnant in Sept and did a lot of research, asked around, everyone (including my GP and my cardiologist) highly recommended the hospital and the drs I was seeing. I was seeing to dr. Angela Bianco and she was great, the whole practice is great, the only thing is that they specialize in maternal and fetal medicine, so not sure if they take non high risk patients, if they do I would highly recommend dr. Bianco or DR. Stone. Oh and it is a big group practice and they told me I would have to see all or most of the drs in the group, but once I went to Bianco she said there was no need and I could just see her, so I did, never had any problems making an appt or seeing just her.

I'd rather not say - especially if others are using them! I'm sure they're great - they just weren't for me!

If you don't mind delivering at Columbia Presbyterian, FM for my doctor. She is part of a practice so she may not be the one delivering your baby, but I really like all the other doctors I met in the practice. My doctor never rushes me, always takes time to listen to me and answer my questions. I just love her!

Re: My OB referred to her/my hospital as ghetto. Help me change!
I am using Dr Howard Shaw and Dr Lisa Johnson. Their practice is at 68th and Park and they deliver at Lenox hill. For most appointments i use Dr Shaw as he is fast and there is never any wait. But if you want someone more patient use Dr Johnson. She takes her time with you and i love her but not when i am making appointments on my lunch break as there is usually a bit of a wait for her. But i have to say i love both doctors and i have heard only good things about Lenox Hill and i dont mind which doctor delivers my baby as i have great time for both and Shaw has delivered my 4 little cousins so i know i am in good hands.
Good luck.
