my OLD boss wants the # to the place Im going to be working out
is this wrong? or what. I decided to take the new job. I told my boss on wednesday of last week and today his wife calls me and asks for the phone # to the palce of where I am going. I was very busy but hesitat about it and gave her the name of the place. When things calmed down I called her back to see why and she wanted it just in case she needs to find things or has questions about things. I pretty much ran the office here. I let it go and then asked my boss why his wife would want that info. He said probably for a reference. He said he was surprised they didnt call for one. But the thing was I didnt use them as one. I used some other people who I have worked with. And that was acceptable. I just dont want my boss here ruining my new job. Do you think I am paranoid for no reason or do I have reason to be concerned?

i wouldn't give him the # in my opinion
you already got the job, he doesn't need to give a reference.
i also wouldn't say where you are going

I wouldn't give it to them. They have until you leave to get up to speed on everything and if they don't it's on them.
What if they call every 10 minutes? I am sure you wouldn't want to jeapardize your new job by recieving not only personal calls but from another company to help them.

wow - that's kinda weird.
Why would they need the new place's #?
I don't think you're being paranoid - this is very weird.

Re: my OLD boss wants the # to the place Im going to be working out
It is really none of your ex-boss-to-be's business to have your new number. Nor should they rely on you to continue your job after you leave, unless you have a relationship with them, where you don't mind hleping them if needed. But you can't take time/nor be expected to, from your new job to assist them and they should respect that and should thus not be calling there.
If anything offer a personal email, you check, to correspond when they have time. They will quickly learn to do things without you. JMO

No way, I wouldn't even tell them where you were going!
It is none of their business! If they need to ask you questions, they should contact you via e-mail your your home/cell phone.
If you gave them ample time notice, they shouldn't contact you at all! IMHO!
Good Luck with the New Job!

I would 2nd this advice...no way do they need your work # or location information. Not their business.

Re: my OLD boss wants the # to the place Im going to be working out
If you feel like you would like to help them and that is why they are asking for the info, give them your cell number (assuming you keep it off while you are at work or on vibrate)or a home email account. That way you can call them at your own pace and time. Your new place of employment will not love seeing you constantly on the phone should they chose to call you often. I know I have said something to my employees when we have seen this behavior (when it gets out of hand).
But saying they want it as a reference - that is strange. If they want your help, they should straight out ask for it.

No way would I tell my boss or his WIFE where I was going!!!!! Even if you can help them- they can call you at home! Not at your NEW job!!!! I would ask again IMO that is NOT the real reason why they want the number to the new place, be careful!

I have been put in this situation!!!
Just give a personal email address for them to contact you at. No need for a work phone number. Just tell them that you won't know it until you get there and give an AOL/Yahoo address for emergencies.

I really don't think it is any of their business to have the number of your new place of employment

Re: my OLD boss wants the # to the place Im going to be working out
No way! IMO, the last day you get paid by your current company, is the last day that they should contact you about their work.
Politely say, "I'm sorry, but I don't feel comfortable with giving you my contact info. I hope you understand." Your old boss shouldnt be interrupting your NEW work, so just leave it at that.

I definitely think it's wrong. If they really need to ask you a question so badly, they can call you at home and leave a message.
