My parents are thinking about selling their house
And I'm so upset. This is the house that I grew up in. My parents are both seniors and are finding it difficult to take care of the house, especially when they're down in Florida (like right now). My mom said she's always worried about a pipe bursting or the basement flooding while they're gone. So they'd rather sell and buy something smaller, and that has landscaping and stuff like that included.
I don't want to even think about someone else living in MY house!!!

Re: My parents are thinking about selling their house
I know what you mean. My parents downsized a few years ago and i was really upset at first. I loved my room (which they still kept for me even though I was not living there) and the pool. After a while though I was happy for them my dad didn't have to spend a day mowing the lawn and gardening, my mom didn't have to wash 30 windows so they are able to do fun stuff and go away on trips all the time without worrying about the pool or who is going to shovel the driveway.
Now I love their new place and them downsizing may have a few perks if you had your eye on any of their furniture.

Re: My parents are thinking about selling their house
Awww Im so sorry! I totally know how you feel because i know it is coming for my parents too and I can't even think about it. But know that another family will get to have wonderful memories too, and that it will be easier on your parents to live in a place that they get help maintaining.

my parents sold in 1994. I was heartbroken. They had to move though.

Re: My parents are thinking about selling their house
I'm trying to think of it in a positive way, that another family will get to create memories in that house, but it still makes me want to cry . Coming home to visit just won't be the same!
I'm just being selfish, I know....it'll be much easier for my parents when they sell (not to mention they'll make a killing - they bought that house in 1960 for around $25k!!!). I just imagined them staying there until the end....

Yeah, but my parents' current house is a tiny Cape and they're looking at places with only 2 bedrooms! There will be no room for Thanksgiving or Christmas family dinners! So that puts the stress on my little sister to always have family get togethers at her house (the only other option is my brother's house, which is not very big).
If they would all just move here to Colorado, everything would be fine!

That is definitely the worst part about downsizing! Your poor sister having to host everything from now on!
