MY POOR DS...Anyone have any experience with ingrown toenails?

My poor DS has been through so much this past few months. He had a BAD bacterial infection in his big toe that ended up with 20 days of antibiotics and having to be drained. Then RSV, with SEVERE ear infections and 103+ fever for over 5 days. Now I THINK he may have an ingrown toenail on his other big toe. I KNOW if is hurting him, but kind of looks just like a piece of his nail on the inner edge growing straight up. It's tough and I cannot clip/cut it without him freaking out and can't cut through it at all. Is this an ingrown toenail? WHAT DO I DO? This is so hard. I know the doctor will want to see him probably but I just had to take MOST of last week off from work b/c he had the stomach virus, and then of course when he was ready to go back to the babysitter I got it. What do I do?

I had to take a day for her and one for me, both of us sick.. man its freaking me out for the job aspect.
