My face may be different But my feelings the same I laugh and I cry And I take pride in my gains I was sent here among you To teach you to love As God in the heavens Looks down from above To Him I am no different His love knows no bounds It's those here among you In cities and towns That judge me by standards That man has imparted But this family I've chosen Will help me get started For I'm one of the children So special and few That came here to learn The same lessons as you That love is acceptance It comes from the heart We all have the same purpose Though not from the start The Lord gave me life To live and embrace And I'll do it as you do But at my own pace

7/12 We found out yesterday that the baby has DS. We spent the night with my brother and SIL last night. I have no clue what is going to happen now. Believe me, I know this is not the end of the world but it feels that way to them right now and they are not exactly agreeing on what to do next so it is very upsetting. I just wish and hope that they can come together at this time and make the best decision for themselves and this child, together. Either way I support them 100%.Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers.
I don't know what to say. Only they can decide and whatever choice they make is the right one.

they really are! I had a w/ downs when i was in peds, and she was the cutest, happiest baby ever. I'm smiling right now just thinking about her.
DH and i have both worked with the population, and we agree that they've probably been some of our favorite people ever to know. Take the nicest and funniest person you know, and then give them the biggest heart in the world... that's been my experience w/ downs, anyway.
I know some people consider it a tough decision, and i know (from having downs and autism in my family) that it's hard to accept that you're kid isn't going to be "normal" by society's standards, but ehhhh society sucks and normal is overrated anyway. I hope they can still find the blessing in all of this.

I agree
My aunts cousin had downs..she passed away last year (she was in her 60's) and she was a terrific, loving and very much loved member of their family.
I hope they get through this together whatever they choose. It is upsetting news, no one foresees their child having problems...you are wonderful for being there for them and giving them the support they need, which will be a lot right now!!

Re: My SIL got some disheartening news UPDATE 7/12
I taught a little girl with DS and she was the light of my classroom. As the poem says, the baby will do things at its own pace, but you'll see what a light he or she will bring into your life!!!
