My sister is having a shower for me this weekend (THANKS MABLE03 LOVE YA )
but I dislike opening presents in front of everyone, I was always like this
Do you think its rude not to open the gift that the guests purchased in front of them ????

And if they confront me what should I do ???

my sister did not open any gifts it was a little of dd but it wasnt bad.

what about comprimising how about opening tehgiftsas you get them. I kow someone who did this and it worked out well.

I dislike it too, believe me when I tell you it felt like I was being physically tortured, but I think most people expect it...especially at a baby shower, I know I LOVE looking at all the cute stuff.

Also, I've never been to a shower where the guest of honor did not open presents.

I am not thrilled w/ opening gifts in front of people either. In fact that is one of the reasons I did not want a shower (my mom just used the $ and bought me everything instead of throwing a shower). IMO I think people like to see your reaction when opening the gifts they purchased for you. It also make the time pass at the party. Maybe you could have some people up w/ you handing you gifts, throwing out paper etc. as you open the presents to kinda take the spotlight off you.

I didn't want to open in front of everyone at ALL either and have also been to far too many showers were it was an assembly line and I felt like the girls didn't even take a minute to thank people as they opened it or comment on the gifts or anything, just opened and was like NEXT!

I did end up opening my gifts at my shower because people want to see it -- especially baby showers -- but felt so uncomfortable -- especially with the picture taking. But I do think it's something you just gotta suck up and do!

i hate it too but people do consider it rude to not open up gifts. i try to get away with it all the time at my kids birthday parties and people always say something

Its a 3 hr shower and I feel I prefer to talk to the guests then to open up the presents.

I really didnt want a shower this is my 2nd child and my sister is calling it a SPRINKLE and I know I should suck it up but I really dislike the gift part .....

I dont' like to open gifts either in front of people. I do think the older ladies will feel slighted. If they go to the trouble of choosing, wrapping & lugging the gift, I think the least you could do is open it for them.

My sisters arranged for a bingo game so the attention wasn't on me as much. You can also open while they are eating.

You know personally I don't care I think you should do what makes you comfortable. Besides all my gifts don't need to be opened everyone can see them already

maybe make it a game and let the " Grandmas" open them. Do the whole bingo or guess what the gift is thing and divide the guest into two teams with the grandmas or Aunts as captains...and the team who win gets some small prize. let get baby bottles from the $$$$ store and fill them with candy or some sort of " baby" realted thing. This way the guest are more involved and it makes the giftys open faster and the attention is not on you opening gifts

I had my neices their ages 4 and 2.5 at the time and my other SIL's nephews ages 1.5 and 3.5 and they actually opened the gifts for me and I read the cards. All I had to do was show the gift. Maybe that was an option. It actually went really fast that way.

I felt uncomfortable too, but I think people would expect you to be opening the gifts they brought. Try playing a game or two to take a bit of the attention away. That's what we did at mine, and it helped... a lot.

I think it will all be overwhelming, even just seeing how much people care. Try to enjoy and remember once your little one is here, the attention will be on them.....a lot! (LOL)

I disliked the attention of opening up the gifts - but at baby showers - its kind of expected for you to open up the gifts in front of everyone.

See if you can get some friends, family, kids to help you hurry it up - and try to enjoy it.

All these gifts are for your baby!
