My son had surgery on Wednesday
My son started vomiting on Monday after eating, I thought that maybe it was a one time thing and did not really think anything of it. But then he vomited again on Tuesday, so I called the pediatrician and made an appointment for 9am Wednesday
But on I woke up at 4am on Wednesday morning to my 6 week covered in vomit and choking. I got him to stop choking but when I looked at him he had an incredible look of panic in his eyes. I looked at my husband and said he does not look right, and took him to Good Samaritan ER.
They did a few test and said that everything came back normal, but they ordered an xray and a sonogram, which showed that he had pyloric stenosis.
In pyloric stenosis, the pylorus muscles thicken, blocking food from entering the baby's small intestine. Pyloric stenosis can lead to forceful vomiting, dehydration and weight loss. Babies with this condition may seem to always be hungry. Treatment for pyloric stenosis involves surgery to split the overdeveloped muscles
Handing over my newborn DS to the staff was the hardest thing I have ever had to do. I cried like a baby and could not believe what was happening.
The surgeon, Dr. Winick took about 45 minutes to complete the surgery, and we got to see him shortly afterwards.
When I went to see my DS in recovery I had to muster up every ounce of courage I had as my ds grabbed my dh and my fingers and cried in pain, my heart just melted as I prayed for his pain to just go away.
24 hours after the surgery, my son looked and felt so much better. The pediatric staff at Good Samaritan were WONDERFUL!!! They kept us informed every step of the way and treated my DS as if he was their own.
My ds was discharged at 3pm this afternoon and after 3 days of being in the hospital I am so happy to say that my ds is back to his loving self and I am so happy to have my lil man back home and healthy.

Re: My son had surgery on Wednesday
My first DS had pyloric stenosis as well and had to have surgery at 7 weeks. It is terrifying but the good news is that he was back to normal (and even better than normal) almost immediately and has been eating like a horse ever since. It's going to be so great to have him stop projectile vomiting and feeling comfortable, glad all turned out well.

Very scary. I had a friend who's niece had the same issue. She had surgery and is perfect now. Happy your son is safe and back to himself.

Re: My son had surgery on Wednesday
aw how scary but so glad things turned out okay and how amazing you trusted your instincts and took him right in!
I like hearing stories like this not for the scare you went through or the pain but I think it helps those of us who might run into something similar and not follow through on going to ER or trusting that mommy gut so hopefully your story will make someone else help their LO as well. Most important is glad you are all on the other side of this!!!

Wow! so glad to hear your little boy is doing well now!
dr. winick is one of the best...he pretty much saved my life 22 years ago when my apendix burst. i was 4 years old and had to have emergency surgery by him...my parents probably felt the same way you did.
im so glad everything turned our ok for you. =)

My son had surgery on Wednesday
I am so sorry your little man had to go through that. I almost cried reading it. I cannot imagine what you must have went through. It is definitly an eye opener for other parents that something more serious could be wrong so good on you for trusting your instincts.

Re: My son had surgery on Wednesday
i have tears in my eyes reading this (new mommy hormones myself) - i can only imagine how hard it must have been handing him over for surgery. i'm so happy it went well though and it just goes to show, always trust your instinct.
