My student teacher...
is horrible.
He just blabs on and on and the kids look at him like "Huh".
1st period I gave him some pointers for his 2nd period lesson. He didn't do any of them! The kids got nothing out of it, so tomorrow I have to re-teach the whole thing!
I didn't have to P/T student teach but I am starting to feel like it is such a waste, he isn't getting anything out of it.
He is very full of his ability and doesn't listen to my advice. I don't know if it is because I am younger or not but still.....I know what I am doing...jeeze!!

Re: My student teacher...
I had a student teacher from hell also. Never took the suggestions that I gave her and actually argued with me about them. The kids were so lost and desperate. I feel your pain

Re: My student teacher...
i would speak with him about his need to follow your advice... i would even say that you know the kids better , you know how to best reach them. if the situation doesn't improve i would speak with the contact person from the University and see where you can go from there.
a key part of teaching is evaluating yourself.... clearly he is not good at that yet... perhaps there are other ways you can get that across???

Re: My student teacher...
I was having similar problems and it wasn't until one day that she was left to teach all of my classes (with another sub in the room) and she lost tests, didn't follow the directions and the students didn't finish. From that moment on after I was done trying to be somewhat calm she has really shaped up. She really needed to be left to realize she is still new at this. Then when I tried to correct her she said well you can't expect... and I cut her off right there and told her, I expect you to be able to read directions, do a listening passage and get everything done that every other teacher (departmental test) got finished. She has been a dream since that mess.
Is there a way that you can have something similar happen, have to be out for a day but they will teach with a sub in the room and let him fall on his face and maybe he will realize that he needs to listen.
Sorry to hear so many are having bad experiences. I will say honestly this will be my last student teacher.

Re: My student teacher...
The perfect situation would have been friday. I was out all day, but my student teacher called out.
I don't know what else to do. It's just very frustrating when I want to help him to grow and he just doesn't want the advice.

If he doesn't take your advice, I wouldn't let him teach any more classes...plain and simple. Tell him that you need to see improvement on his part or you will be talking to his advisor.

I remember dragging my butt to student teach when I was deathly sick.

Damn skippy. I was told if I missed even one day I would have to extend it and then miss graduation because of it. Kick his butt into shape- its your room and your students. He needs to respect your wishes and advice. When he has his own classroom, he can do whatever he pleases.

Re: My student teacher...
there was no reason why he called out. None that he told me anyway..just something along the lines of it being a "bad day" lol
I'll see how Friday goes and if anything I will definitely take the classes way. My way or the highway buddy!

Re: My student teacher...
Wow, sorry you're going through this (maybe he's writing the nasty things in the text book...JK )
I'd talk to him & tell him like the others' said what he should/shouldn't be doing & if he's not listening/following your advice, I'd definitely say something to his professor, etc. At the end won't you have to write a letter/evaluation for him?
At some point doesn't his professor have to come in to observe him?

His professor came once and comes next week. The last time he addressed some of my concerns in our meeting.
Also, his professor is a long time friend of his.
