My visit with Cornell-plan of action-LONG..get a snack

Dr. Davis is perhaps the smartest person I have ever met. He talks a mile a minute but in a way that you can understand. Even DH understood everything.

They took lots of blood from me and some from DH.

At 41 I am a rarity. Most people at my age have been trying for years and have had IVF already. We've only been trying for about 6 months but I didn't want to wait.

My FSH is 8.7, down from 18.2. We aren't sure that high number is a real number since all other levels were good. My thyroid, although normal was on the high side of normal and that can make FSH go higher. So some of the blood was for a thyroid panel. If it's high, I will go on medicine.

I have to meet with my oncologist on Thursday night. I had a breast cancer scare a few years ago, but it was pre-cancerous and I get watched closely. Some of the IVF protocols are estrogen priming and Dr. Davis wants to make sure the oncologist is comfortable with certain estrogen therapies for me. They will probably speak to each other directly either Friday or Monday.

I have to call the IVF nurse after that is settled. Dr. Davis will then decide the protocol and I will start cycling. (Holy crap)

He does not think I need co-culture. He says that first time IVFers never do it at Cornell unless there's some reason which is rare. He says it's reserved for people who have had failed IVF attempts and know their embryo quality wasn't great.

He said all the right things. We shouldn't wait and we should get going. He examined me and I'm right now Oing and he confirmed that. I have 3 or 4 follies right now which is low but not terrible. He expects a 41 year old to have about that many.

The protocol will be very aggressive. He mentioned every drug under the sun and he will decide how we proceed after he speaks to the Oncologist.

They took 10 vials of blood.Chat Icon They are testing for other genetic stuff that NS didn't. Also HIV and thyroid.

Frankly, I always thought my thyroid was a bit off but my regular doc always said it was normal.

I am uber impressed with Cornell and so is DH. Not knocking NS, but I'm not their type of patient. They don't deal with 41 year old high fshers. Who knows if that number was even real. I will get re-tested on CD2 every month I cycle so I will continue the Wheat grass and acupuncture and all the other crap.

Whew..what a day!

If you've gotten this far, I thank you for reading this and helping me with everything. You ladies are the reason I am going forward.

Good luck to all and may we all become mommies soon.

ps..DH wants a May baby..we've got some work to do!

Well, it looks like you're on the right track, dealing with a clinic that works with patients in your situation.

I'm glad you have a plan. I'll bet that feels great! Time to get rolling for that May baby!

I do too. Silly smart. I thought he wouldn't have a personality but he is really nice and we had a few laughs. I saw Dr. Chung in the elevator. I think it was him.

Re: My visit with Cornell-plan of action-LONG..get a snack

Excellent news!!!!

I have a thyroid thing too. Just a little cute pill will take care of it. Mine was only slightly elevated also.

I had the same impression of Dr. D too.

Now you reminded me to see if they got my additional b/w that I hadn't done before.

and i"m so happy about your FSH number!!!!!

Looking forward to hear how your cycle will go.

These are antral follicles I think...they predict how many you will get on stims.
