Nail Polish and C-Section

My c-section is this weekend. I was going to redo my toes tomorrow but now I'm hearing some people say you can't have nail Polish during a c-section because the anesthesiologist wants to see the color of your nail beds.

Anyone know or have experience with this?

They mentioned no makeup or creams in pre-surgical testing but didn't say antsy thing about nail Polish. I had my last OB appt this morning but I only heard this tonight.

No reds, purples, browns, etc. You can do a French or a baby soft pink but try to shy away from other colors. The funny thing is if you go into labor and end up with a csection they don't take off your red nail polish but with scheduled it's different.

It's so that the monitor that reads your oxygenation can do so accurately (very important).

Monitors differ slightly across hospitals, so some are a "sticker" and can be positioned around the nail polish. Others are "clips" and can't.

Blues, blacks and metallics are the worst & may be removed from at least one finger.

Light pinks and neutrals are usually no problem for the monitor.

In an emergency CS, the same problem happens, just may not have the time to find nail polish remover...

Best to do a very neutral color, or clear over finger nails.

Toes are fine.

Never heard that. I had a scheduled c-section last June. I was scheduled for 3:30pm and got my nails done that morning. I did get a light color because I knew it would be a while before my next manicure. But they never mentioned anything when I went for pre-op testing. This was a LIJ Katz.

I had surgery -gallbladder- and they never told me to take it off.
But I have heard of it before.

However, you said your toes right?
They don't care about your toes- only your fingers where the O2 monitor will go.

Every hospital has a different policy. If they didn't say anything at your pre-surgical they probably don't care. During an emergency c-section, they don't stop to remove your nail polish! I had planned on getting a mani/pedi for my first scheduled c-section but went into labor the day of my appt. I had polish on my nails already and it wasn't an issue.

Mines scheduled. I'd like to do fingers too. I think I'll buy polish in case they need to remove a finger, my mom can replace it. I just don't want to waste the money if it's going to be removed.

Anyone with experience at Southside?

I had Essie turk & caicos on my toes and red on my nails. I wasn't given a problem.
