Naming your child

I have seen many threads on naming children on both the TTC and PG boards over the past few months. While we all have reasons why we would choose certain names for kids, I always wondered if anyone ever picked out names in advance with absolute certainty only to look at their children at birth and completely change their minds. Just curious.

Re: Naming your child

My parents did. My sister was named Justine for the first day of her life. When we came in the next day, my mom said to us, Here's your baby sister, Shannon. Shannon totally fits her!

Re: Naming your child

We picked the name very early on. We looked at alternative but in the end we sticked to the one we originally picked.

Re: Naming your child

Well...sort of. DH and I FINALLY after 38 weeks and 2 days came up with a name we agreed on for the most part (Ryan). On the 3rd day, I made him figure out a new name (Lucas)...once he was born (remember, we didn't know if we were having a boy or girl), DH says to me: "You were right, he's not a "Ryan."Chat Icon

eta-and i gave birth on the 4th day!Chat Icon

Re: Naming your child

my DH and i picked the names early on for at the the time Twin A and Twin B

Twin A- became Reese Ilana after my grandmother and granfather

Twin B became Sydney Lola after my grandparents on my dads side

When they finally came it's so weird but their names totally fit them..for a brief second before i gave birth i switched the names between A and B and my DH made me switch it back so glad i did.

Re: Naming your child

prior to me even getting pregnant with James we had agreed that if we ever had a boy he would be named James Salvatore...after our Grandfathers. If we had a girl she would be named Angela Rose...(my grandparents last name is DeAngelo, so that is were Angela came from and my mother's name and DH's grandmother are Roses)

When I actually got PG with James we tried to think of other names...we were no longer a 100% positive we wanted James to be the 1st name. Well on the morning he was born, when they brought me back down to labor and deliver from the high risk floor...we decided that it had to be JAMES...because every James we knew was a fighter and we needed out little man to fight.

I was 8 mos pregnant on the 1 yr anniversay of my grandmother's passing...it was also the day that Marianna finally cooperated and let us know that had a woo woo and not a pee pee. I decided that day that she must be named after my Grandmother who was Mary. I felt like my grandmother was watching over me through my pregnancy....she was the reason I took the HPT the morning that I got my BFP. I hadn't missed my period yet...but I had dreamed about her handing me a baby in a pink blanket. so naturally when I woke up I took the test and it was positive. DH had also changed his mind about using the name Angela...he really wanted to use Anna...so we compromised and named her Marianna Rose.

Re: Naming your child

This happened with my parents.
Mom didn't know the sex of the baby (my sister).
The whole nine months a boy would have been Michael and a girl would have been Alyssa.

My sister's name is Nancy.

As for me. If I was having a boy we were set on Bryan..As for a girl she would be Brianna (the whole pregancy).
As I was wheeled into the OR DH turns to me and says "So if its a girl"...We both look at each other and say Lauren.

I had a boy and if I have a girl next time, we will probably use Lauren. (We say that now, but, we shall see).Chat Icon
