Nanny Cam

We think our nanny has possibly been taking money from us. I leave my purse on the kitchen counter when I come home from work. I come home then I go upstairs to get changed. The other day, I had $40 in my wallet then the next morning I had nothing left. Now, I also leave my wallet in my unlocked office so it is possible it could have been taken then (I knew I had the $40 before I went out to lunch and did not go into my wallet again until the following morning).
Now this morning, I took money from DH's wallet (as I had none!) and counted how much was in there. I left his wallet on the kitchen counter (kind of like a test). He just counted it and it looks like $40 is missing Chat Icon I am so upset I really don't know what to do. She is sooo wonderful with ds and we are both so busy at work that we really need to rely on someone we can trust who is good with ds.
I am already at work and DH has meetings all day and there is no one else to watch DS if we fire her now. What would you do/say?

What we really want to do is get a nanny cam installed so we can get solid proof if this is the case. Can anyone recommend someone to come and install a nanny cam tomorrow?

Oh man, that really stinks!
I don't have any referrals but I definitely think you should install the cameras and catch her in the act before you say anything...good luck!

Re: Nanny Cam

I agree, thank you. I am just so sick over this. Jeremy really likes her and he is what is the most important to us. I just feel so violated and disappointed.
Hopefully this is just a bad week and once we get the camera installed, nothing will show up. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Nanny Cam

Oy, that's a bad one. If she's stealing from you than it means she's dishonest, and well, no matter how much your son likes her, I don't think I would have such a dishonest person watch the most important person in the world to me.

BUT, before you do anything rash, DEFINITELY install a nanny cam. Do a test - install it in the kitchen, leave a wallet in the kitchen in the same spot, and see what happens.

Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have a friend who installs security systems. If that is something you are interested in, FM me and I will send you his info.

Exactly, thank you!
My sister's thought was that she will see the cameras and not do anything again. I am really OK with that! I would rather prevent this from happening again than really catch her inthe act, KWIM? I am hoping this was just a really bad week and this will never happen again. At least if we install the cameras we will know. If we just ignore it and wait for it to happen again, we will never eeally know for sure.
As far as the cameras are concerned, we are going to try to install them so they aren't obvious but really, do I care if she sees them? I am not going to mention that we had them installed and if she notices it, she will be on alert! Like you said, it is the dishonesty I am most concerned/upset about. Chat Icon

Re: Nanny Cam

I agree that disbonesty is dishonesty and if she is stealing from you I'd begin looking for someone else.

My co-worker/lurker friend on the site had a similar situation with their nanny - only they discovered later her DH misplaced the money.

She does have cameras, just not in the area her purse was. I've asked her to FM you her camera guy's info.

I would rather confirm that she's stealing that prevent it from happening again. Stealing goes to character.

Re: Nanny Cam

If this is what happened, even if she only stole from you once, it is one too many times and you should look to replace her. She is obviously dishonest and not reliable and I would not want her around my child b/c I wouldnt be able to trust her.

Re: Nanny Cam

I would install the cameras without telling her. I don't agree with the well it only happened once or twice thing. Once would be enough for me. I couldn't trust someone with my child that was ballsy enough to steal from me in my own home.

Thank you.

I do agree with all of you about once being more than enough and it goes to character and all but this is so difficult. I am absolutely sick over even the thought of this happening in my home.
We are going to have the system installed and then make a decision.

Re: Nanny Cam

Did you think about approaching her? Maybe even if you say something like "Did you happen to see any money laying around, I thought I left it here but can't seem to find it."
