Nanny/Day Care?
I continue my quest for knowledge so I can be as prepared as possible when we get prego, etc. Yes, I am crazy!
Just curious for those that have looked into this-- what are the going rates?
Also, anyone that has done research in this topic-- have you found out anything interesting?

Re: Nanny/Day Care?
I have heard the going rates around $1000+ a month per child. I would ask around churches for a stay at home mom [maybe an empty nester/kids in college] who watches kids but for much less than a daycare will run.

Re: Nanny/Day Care?
I called a couple of centers so far. One was $300 a week for full time infant care, one was $252 a week for same. I personally prefer a center over an individual only because there are more "eyes" there and I feel like more can go on behind closed doors in someone's home than in a center.

I agree-- I also live in an urban area, just outside the city-- so, I would suspect even day care will be more expensive-- but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I pay a lot more for a nanny/sitter parttime. This is about what I pay for 25 hours. I prefer someone to come to my house since she's so young. I like that she doesn't have to be woken up or taken out in bad weather. I did install a surveillance system so I can see and hear what is going on throughout the day.

Re: Nanny/Day Care?
I pay 325/weekly for 5 days for 1 child in a private home. I think it is about 10.00 a day more for a second child.

Yikes! I don't make very much money to begin with, so if I had to pay that much, it wouldn't even be worth it in the long run to work!

thanks-- those costs are probably comparable to what I would pay in Hoboken-- which is what I was figuring-- $2K/month for a nanny. YIKES!

LI I found anywhere from $200 - $400 week. Luckily my job now has daycare in our building for employees only, and that costs nearly $1000/month
