Naps at daycare vs. home
DS naps OK at home - goes down in his crib usually for at least 40 min, sometimes an hour or 2. At daycare, they claim he wont sleep in his crib (I believe this , he is nosey and has to see what else is going on around him) so he sleeps in the swing or bouncy chair, for about 40 min at a time. The Ped says I should have the put him in the crib and that's it. He does NOT sleep in the crib at home. THoughts on this? TIA!!!

I'm confused, you said he goes down in his crib at home, but then at the end you said he does NOT sleep in the crib?

Did you mean the crib at daycare?
DD's napping, even the little she does, was very different at daycare.
She HATED the swing at home, but slept so well in it at daycare-where she took most of her naps. She was still a power napper at daycare, but she took like 3 15-20 minute ones.
She's nosey, too much to see, listen too and learn to have sleep! They might miss something!

Re: Naps at daycare vs. home
Sorry - he sleeps fine in his crib at home and that's the only place I let him sleep. At daycare, it's the swing. They say he doesn't sleep in their crib?!? I just wonder at 5 months do I need to make him sleep in the crib at daycare? I think if it was consistent maybe he'd nap longer than 40 min at a time.
....although, napping AT ALL is a major improvement for us so maybe I should just be happy w/that for now?

Re: Naps at daycare vs. home
My kids only nap in the swing or bouncer seat. Putting them in the crib during the day results in hysterical crying.

Re: Naps at daycare vs. home
DS definitely doesn't nap as well at daycare than at home with us! It drives me nuts, but then again he hasn't slept through the night for a full week since December!!!

Re: Naps at daycare vs. home
Marron also doesn't nap as well at daycare as she does at home. Every time I pick her up she is exhausted, and I know it is because she didn't nap well. There is so much to see and do there that she is just too busy. Luckily it's only 1 day a week, so we just deal with it. I don't know how long your DS has been going to daycare, but they told me that the napping should improve as they get used to it more.

I am hoping this is the case. He's been there for 3 months, but missed 3 weeks when he was sick recently so it really is like starting over again. I hope eventually the novelty wears off and he just learns to sleep when he needs to.

Re: Naps at daycare vs. home
I say if it ain't broke....
If he is fine in a crib for you at home I wouldn't worry at all. We have so many kids who nap in swings in the infant room and by the time they move up to the next room they transition into a crib just fine. As long as he is napping I think it is fine

Re: Naps at daycare vs. home
I know it sometimes happens and daycare workers are taking care of another baby- BUT they should not be allowing your child to sleep in the swing or bouncy....Im pretty sure this is a licensing issue!

Thank you. I think I just needed to hear that. The Ped was all "you HAVE to put a stop to that" like it was the worst thing ever. He goes down like a champ at night and USED to sleep through (we are working on that) so overall I think we're doing oK!

I don't know, we're in VA...but a few of the babies in there sleep in swings/bouncy seats. They're all under 9 months.

As long as they are not spending hours upon hours in a swing or bouncy with no interaction with adults it is fine.

You must have a much nicer licensing person, because ours walks through and if sees a sleeping baby in a swing, has plenty to say!

Re: Naps at daycare vs. home
It isn't in the regs that they can't nap in a swing
418-1.7 Program Requirements
(h) Except while sleeping, awaking or going to sleep, an infant must not be left in a crib, playpen or other confined space for more than 30 minutes at any one time. Other than at meals or snack time, a child must not be left in a high chair for longer than 15 minutes.
