Naps in the swing
So, DD will not nap in the crib, I try and try... today she fell asleep in there for 10 minutes then wide awake... I put her in the swing and out like a light... For those that had this problem, how was it when your DC outgrew the swing? Were they in the crib napping by then?

Re: Naps in the swing
I think it took a good 3-4 months and she still only naps in her crib like 20-40 minutes. It is a mystery to us because at daycare she can take a 2 hour nap in her crib.

Re: Naps in the swing
Let them nap away in the swing!!!
I PROMISE THEY WILL OUTGROW IT My son had colic, gas and was a horrible sleeper.
My ds spent his first 5 months swinging away (I would look for the negative effect on too much swing time online). At night he would only sleep with us.
At about six months he would fall asleep on me and I would transfer him to his bed. At about 7-8 months I noticed he wanted to roll around on his own to fall asleep.
Now at nine months he will fall asleep on his own...I did not train him to do this he just did on his own.
I did absolutely no sleep training I just let him be and on his own he led the way.
ENJOY THE SWING...I HAVE YET TO FIND ANY NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF TOO MUCH SWINGING.

Re: Naps in the swing
I would let your DD nap in the swing. I don't think its too big of a deal - my son is a good sleeper and would pass out anywhere... swing, bouncer, crib, car seat, etc.
I have a friend whos DD hates the crib, bassinet, swing, bouncer, etc and will ONLY sleep in her car seat!!! They finally were so sick of trying everything else they bring the car seat inside and let her sleep in that next to their bed. She outgrew it after a few months and now sleeps in her crib.

Re: Naps in the swing
I agree with what the other 2 posters above me said. Let her nap whereever works. She will def outgrow it. You have to remember that she was inside you, a moving body, for 10 months and it's hard for her to fall asleep in a still place. That's why she prefers sleeping the swing. It's nice, cozy and there's movement, like in her momma's belly.

Re: Naps in the swing
I had a list of rules a mile long before my daughter was born. One of them was to never let her nap in the swing, my bed or anywhere but her crib. Well two weeks into motherhood and the rules went out the window and to my surprise it did not ruin my daughter and I was mor relaxed.
My advice: Go with the flow, don't worry about spoiling her and just do what works for you guys in that moment.

Re: Naps in the swing
Thanks for the responses, I am letting her nap in the swing since I have no choice but it just seems odd since lately I have been putting her down awake at night and she falls asleep on her own... naps are a different story but either way, she will grow out of it I guess...

did i write this???? my 1 year old still ONLY naps in the swing. he sleeps in the crib at night...no problem. during the day, he won't hear of it.
my 4 year old did the same exact thing. i let them nap in the swing as long as the swing can hold them!!
By the time my older one was about 1 and a half, I started putting him in the crib for naps. It took months for him to adjust, but he finally did.
Until then, I say happy napping in the swing!!

Re: Naps in the swing
Jenna used to take ALL of her naps in the swing until she was like 6 months old.

Re: Naps in the swing
jacob is still napping in his swing too. He will be 6 months next week. I tried the crib and he screams and sleeps for maybe 10 min. At night he sleeps fine in the crib, wont hear of it during the day. My son is a horrible sleeper all around though. Even with the swing sometimes i get an hr and a half..other times 30 min. I will just let him do it until he goes over the weight limit...
