Nascar Fans -
I have a question - I want to suprise DH with a trip to see a race - I was thinking Richmond, VA because it at night and I hear those are really cool - Anyway - I see there are two races there, One in May and one in September - Which do you think is a better race ??

Definitely go to a night race if you can. Later in the season the chase for the cup is on full-force, so there is more strategy invovled among the drivers. That is just my opinion though. I know when DH & I were planning our race this year (which we are now NOT going to b/c apparently 4 hours of engines is no good for the nugget) he was favouring the Sept race.
Do you have someone to arrange the trip as a package, or are you booking it yourself?

Some places offer full packages that include hotel. transportation, pit passes, etc. It is just a nice deal. We used this guy Linky when we went to Daytona & loved the service. You can also upgrade anything that is offered if you want more. It is not necessary though...Emily I think booked her Daytona trip herself & got to see everything 
Yeah I would go to the later race. It is very exciting when they are battling for the cup.
DH will have a blast. 2 years later my DH still talks about going to Daytona.

We went to a race in the Poconos in late-July last year, and it was fantastic, DH & everyone we went with (even non-Nascar fans) had a great time. It was a daytime race.

DH went to Dover in the summer and ended up getting sunburned, and heat from the track and sitting in the stands was just over whelming at times.
Yet, he's going back to do it again this year.
I would say the Sept race - the weather may be warm, but not as bad as it would be in the summer.
