Nassau Shores, Massapequa?
Anyone here live in Nassau Shores? I'm wondering about flooding in the area, especially those houses with basements. We're looking at houses in the area and some houses have basements, some don't. I'm wondering if those with basements have lots of flooding/water issues with the proximity to the Bay.
Thanks :)

Re: Nassau Shores, Massapequa?
my aunt lives there, my other aunt lives near there. not sure if it's nassau shore,s biltmore shores or what...
anyway, it truly depends on where you are. my aunt had no flooding from teh canal that she lives on, however, the lady across the canal was completely flooded.
(this is when ida was around)
the other aunt had no flooding in her yard, but the street was flooded. she lives right across the canal from the rivera...

Re: Nassau Shores, Massapequa?
Grew up there down on a water streets (Atwater, Brightwater, Clearwater... etc). Had flooding often. My dad had to add a second sump pump to the basement. My neighbors had water come in their back door from the canals and out their front doors.
My friend lives on West Shore Drive close to Merrick Road and her outlets are half way up the wall in the downstairs of her home. She hasn't flooded since being there, but obviously it has flooded in the past.
Even saying this.... I WISH I could move there.
On a unrelated note... Haven't lived there for 20 years but I can still name all the water streets in order.

Thanks all! We had looked at a house on Stillwater and Ripplewater but it doesn't have a basement. In all honesty I'm okay with no basement being this close to the water. I sooo do not want flooding issues

My husband grew up there and his parents still live there. They have some flooding. They had to have a french drain installed.

Re: Nassau Shores, Massapequa?
I know after hurricane Gloria in the 80's a TON of houses were lifted and higher foundations poured. Then it would just be the property flooding, and cars.
