Has anyone had to upgrade their gas meter to a larger sized meter?

My plumber is telling me that I have to upgrade my meter because my meter only supports appliances up to 175,000 BTU's. However, all my appliances together total more than 175,000 BTU's. So I need a larger meter.

If you have upgraded your meter did you have to pay for the new meter through National Grid. I know I may have to pay for the installation but I was wondering if I have to pay for the meter it self.
