Need a Hotel in Manhattan
Trying to find something- rooms under $300 a night that we can squeeze 4 people into. (Unless we can find a few suites at a decent price...)
I'm assuming we'll have 10-12 people (this is for my sister's bachelorette)
Doesn't have to be midtown- just don't want to have to worry about getting home, plus we may do something during the day and then change and go out for the night. Can anyone help me out?
So far I like Dream Hotel...but I don't know anything about it.
I've never stayed overnight in Manhattan so I don't know what's good and what's not.
TIA!!
(PS- I wasn't sure if this should be under Travel- cause it isn't necessarily "travel." Sorry if I posted in the wrong place.)

I've stayed at Dream Hotel. nice hotel, nice lounge, nice rooms but the rooms are REALLY small. That was the only thing I didn't like about it. But super comfy beds. SOO comfy.

Check out the Chandler in Murry Hill...I pay around $300 when I stay for business. The rooms are not tiny...but not big enough for 10 people...depends though I guess.

DON'T stay at the Hudson.
the lighting was so bad we have to check our makeup in the train station!
under $300 is pushing it.

OK. At or around $300 then.
I don't want to stuff 10 people in 1 room. But, I'm trying to keep the cost down too. This is only 1 option, but its the best one I have.

Re: Need a Hotel in Manhattan
this is a really tough time to find a decent hotel room for under 300, including taxes.
your best bet is probably going to be a hotel in the murray hill neighborhood - there is a W there. Try that. If you're staying on a Fri or a Sat (which I'm guessing you are) you'll get better rates in midtown (though I can't promise under 300) b/c those hotels all cater to biz travelers.
i've heard good things about dream hotel as someone else mentioned, though have never stayed there myself. You can probably get a good rate at the Beekman Tower (1st & 49th).

Try the Carltun (or Carlton, I'm not 100% sure) on Madison and 28th - It's been recently renovated -

Re: Need a Hotel in Manhattan
I reserved a block of rooms at the Doubletree metropolitan for my wedding in Aug 06 for $179. I'm sure prices went up, but it's worth a shot. I would also look at the Courtyard by Marriott on 52nd and 3rd (my inlaws stayed there when they came to visit me one time.) I would stay away from boutique hotels since the rooms tend to be smaller.

Re: Need a Hotel in Manhattan
I stayed at the Roger Williams Hotel in 2003. I Think I paid $150 for one night, but I am sure prices have gone up. Anyway, I liked it and the price was right for me. It was also close to Penn Station.

I stay at the Roger Williams once a month when I have meetings. The last rate in April $315 a night plus taxes. The previous one in March was $275 a night, so it varys. Give them a call to check their rates. I also like 70 Park, which is a Kimpton Hotel. Both of these hotels have nice size rooms.

Re: Need a Hotel in Manhattan
Thanks everyone! I appreciate the honesty about pricing- if it were up to me, I would pay whatever, but I know alot of people are on a budget.
I really wanted to do something casual during the day and then something else more "dressed up" at night, but I know it will be too much of a pain to go back and forth to manhattan.
Oh well, I'll check out the suggestions! Thanks again!

Re: Need a Hotel in Manhattan
check out the Crown Plaza in Times Square. They were running rates at $289 a few weeks ago. Of course with tax it's over $300.

Re: Need a Hotel in Manhattan
My girls booked rooms at the Affinia on 33rd Street and got a great deal for my bachelorette through Priceline or one of those other sites. The room was really nice and quite large for Manhattan.
