Need advice! DH's job offer

What would you do?
DH was offered a lateral job (no more $) but with a ton more responsibility. It is the only stepping stone to move up the ladder and potentially make more money. For him to take a similar job he'll need to wait years for another opportunity. So if he doesnt take it, he'll stay at the same postion for who knows how long.
The major problem is that his hours would be from 2:30pm-10:30pm. THis means I'll be the one doing everything with the boys after I'm done with work but at least he'll be able to be with them during the day before work. He won't be able to spend any time with my older DS once he starts kindergarten in Sept. Do we sacrifice this time for the potential for a ton more money and better job? ALso this new job would be probationary-if he doesnt get it ('he probably will) then hes out of a job. But again....this job is a stepping stone. I just dont know-do we let it go and stay at the same comfortable position or sacrifice now for something better in the future?
Please help!

That is a tough decision. I guess it depends on how guaranteed the raise and promotion will be, and how soon. If that is not a definite, maybe he should wait until something else comes along.

Money doesn't matter much unless you can't cover the bills. The question I'd focus on is which job would he enjoy more? Does he like more responsibility? Is the position more interesting and fulfilling?

If he were interested in it & had the potential for career advancement with different hours, I would sacrifice the long-term.

I too would make the sacrifice now if I believed the advancement and money were likely to follow. Another question I would have is how marketable this stepping stone position would make him in his industry in general, because that alone is "job security" of a sort.
