Need advice on moving into our new home
Our walk through is tomorrow night and we close on Friday. We may move in over the weekend..
Does anyone have a checklist that they used that I can look at as far as what needs to be done and companies to call? TIA

Re: Need advice on moving into our new home
Before going to closing, contact LIPA to have the electric ended at the time of closing and a new account created in your name, so the previous owners get charged for their usuage over this last month and not you.
Call oil companies if the house is oil based and choose who you want to go with - service plan or not.
If the house is gas, call Keyspan and do the same as you would have with LIPA.
Call cablevision or whomever your provider is, so they know you're moving and need to come to the new house to get your connected and to turn everything off at your old place.
Hope this helps!

Re: Need advice on moving into our new home
When we switched everything to our name we just called a few days in advance and told them we would be the homeowners. When we did our gas & electric I only called LIPA and they changed it for both. Don't forget the water authority. Make sure that you buy toilet paper in case they didn't leave ANY and paper towels & cleaning supplies as well as drinks and food so that you have things to eat while you are there.

When we closed we called:
- LIPA - Keyspan (gas) - Water Department - Cablevision - Sanitation (got new recycle bin and the schedule)

I forgot the water department thing - that's another thing to do.
Oh and buy tons of fantastic or anti-bacterial cleansers. I literally had to scrub crusty stuff out of the frig when we moved it. There was dog hair in their too.
Thank god the oven and d/w were brand new.

Re: Need advice on moving into our new home
Well, this is a little off topic and you don't need to have them tomorrow, but I would start asking people you know for recommendations for various workers, electricians, roofers, contractors, etc.
We've had a few problems with our home in the month since we purchased it, nothing major, but when things break down, it's great if you have a name and number of someone to call right away. If you get along with the sellers, you can even ask them who they used at the closing.
Good luck!
