Need advice please...some TMI

Sidney has a bad cold. Sneezing coughing, stuffy nose. She had a temp of 100.5 (rectally) all day yest even with tylenol. Now today it got as high as 102.5. With tylenol its now 101.5. BUT....she has pooped 4x today. The foulest smelling stuff EVER! Plus it is light yellow and mucusy. Is that diarreah???? (she is BF'd) My DH has a stomach bug right now and yesterday threw up 4x and had the D word also. I took Sidney and ran to Grandpa's house yesterday to hopefully avoid this. I left a message with the Dr. but have yet to hear back and I would like to run to the store to get something to help her. Should I give Pedialyte???? Or other suggestions. And I have been giving her Tylenol like 4-5 times today and yest. After reading that other post I'm not sure if I should be giving her that much.
Please help. I feel awful for her.
TIA

I hope she gets better but a fever is a good thing and trying to break the fever, although it will give you a little peace of mind is not always the best thing. A general rule I stick to is no fever meds unless the fever goes over 102 (the 102.5 I would have been pumping my kids full of em too). If she is not eating normally and has A LOT of watery poops pedialyte is not a terrible idea but if you can get her to nurse that should be best for her. IMO (Im not a doc just a BTDTChat Icon )

I try to follow the same rule of thumb with the fever medicine, unless they were so uncomfortable my heart is breaking. The body runs a fever to fight off infection, so breaking it prematurely isn't always the best thing. I did and still do push liquids as much as possible with fevers.

As for the poop, if she has a lot of mucus, it often comes out in the poop.

Wow if there's any proof I'm a BTDT, I'm eating a sandwich as I type this...

Hang in there. Hope your pediatrician calls back soon.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks for the info. I will try to lay off the tylenol unless it gets bad again. I'm off to buy the pedialyte. The DR. finally called and she says it sound like the Rotavirus (sp?). Never heard of it. Just sounds not fun. Ughh...

Connor had a fever last week that hit 105 we had to go to the ER. The doc had us give him pedialyte as much as possible. He wasn't eating at all. It lasted about 4 days.

Hope she is better soon.

I agree with the other BTDT mommies. Although, we are on our first fever ever at 23 months. The more you let a fever run it's course (depends on a variety of factors) the better it is for the body. The more you give medicine the more you typically prolong the infection and the body from doing it's job.

There isn't a whole lot you can do. The most important this is that she's drinking fine and keeping hydrated. Hope she feels better soon.

Going to bed now. Just got her to sleep after she threw up Chat Icon Chat Icon That was a horrible experience. She was shivering too. Thankfully she nursed a lot before she fell asleep.

Dree - do you have the cool mist humidifier in her room? I know she's shivering, but bundle or layer her up and let it run today. That will loosen the mucus in addition to the saline spray to help her breath more. You don't want to be dealing with a secondary infection.

Trust your gut. If you feel she's getting worse at all, call the pediatrician again. None of us are doctors on here (at least I don't think so..)\
