Need Advice...kinda pregnancy related

Im due May 31st...and we currently live in a basement apartment...its me,DH,and our 17lb dog, and we've def outgrown it. We were in the process of buying something, but we've been getting the run around, and just decided to walk away if we can not close by 4/25. That will only leave us about 1 month to find something, start over w/ our mortgage etc, before DD is due.

My question is, would you bring your LO home to a cramped basement apt?

My mother has offered to let us move in with them until we find something else, but the spare bedroom in her house is small as well...and my parents, brother, sister, and grandmother all live there as well!

Should we clear out some of our stuff in our current apt to make room for LO, or move into my parents house???

ETA- Im concerned about it being a basement, we have a new dehumidifier, but it will be almost summer when we bring her home.

Totally up to you, but I would probably opt to bring the baby back to your apartment. I would just want to have my own space.

Even though we all get so much baby stuff, I don't think they need that much in the beginning.

I do too.

It's a temporary situation and I think you'll be much more comfortable at home, even if that is a basement apartment.

I agree as well. We are in a one bedroom apt that has some faults but its good for now and we'd rather be in our own space.

Thanks everyone! :) I pretty much felt like we HAD to move into my moms, but I would much rather be in my own space. I still have to talk about it with DH and see what he thinks...but Im glad to know Im not the only one who will have a baby in a small 1 bedroom!Chat Icon

We live in a one bedroom with 4 cats, I am pretty sure if DH doesn't get a job transfer by our due date, we will be in here as well. My SIL converted her closet into a space for the crib (took the door off and everything) in her one bedroom, totally doable.

Can you store baby things that you won't need yet at your Mom's, so you're not as cramped in your current place?

Yes! If we stay in our apt, I will store the baby stuff plus some furniture we will have to move to fit the bassinet & changing table!!

Then that's absolutely what I'd do! Chat Icon

Its temporary. Your LO won't know the difference, and you'll be more comfortable with your own space adjusting as a new family together.

agreed. the new family adjustment period is an ADJUSTMENT. You'll feel a lot more comfortable in your own space.

This is what we plan on doing! We love our 1 br and we know it will be a little tight. But my parents live 5 minutes from us, so we can store things until we need them.

Re: Need Advice...kinda pregnancy related

We moved from CA back to NY when I was 27 weeks pregnant (I was due 5/31 too!). We actually backed out of a house deal (no contract - just inspection) in late March...and was in contract for another by mid April. We were supposed to close at the end of May, but there were some issues and we closed 6/21 (DS was 2 weeks old)

We were in my parents' house and it was cramped. My mom drove me crazy insisting that she would have the baby at night (it was our first and we wanted to be with the baby and I was bfing), but in the end, when I look back, it wasn't that bad and I wish that we had waited a little bit longer to find a different house (I don't like my house, but felt I was in a rush).

So while having my own space was important, if you can have ground rules with your mom before the baby is born and you can take your time to house hunt and find the right one, it can work out to benefit you.
