Need central AC or ductless AC rec
We need to install a new AC system in our house. We have a Levitt house so we would need a !new installation.
I am hesitating between regular AC and ductless AC units.
Pros and cons of either option if you have them?
Who would recommend off the installation?

Need central AC or ductless AC rec
We have a Levitt house too and installed ductless a few summers ago. It's much more energy efficient compared to regular wall/window AC units. The units are very quiet too. We used Universe for installation.

I meant compared to duct AC.
Do you mind sharing the cost of your installation?

Re: Need central AC or ductless AC rec
I just did this....
We are going with duct central air - much cheaper then the ductless. The ductless ones were abt $3k a unit and basically you install a unit in each room you want cooled.
I met with several companies and decided on Twin Air, family owner and operated, they also had the best price for what we wanted and another thing I liked was we will be eligible for the PSEG rebate and as a courtesy they take the rebate amount off the total and they wait the 8-weeks or so for the refund - I thought that was great.....
We also met with Elm, Sears, Apple Air, Joe Gerdes Co.
Good luck

Sorry to piggyback off the OPs post but do you mind sharing the cost.
We are buying a split no CAC and want to have it installed but were between CAC and the ductless. From what I have been reading the ductless seems to be just as much as CAC. TiA

The ductless was $12k for 3 units... For CAC we were quoted starting at $8400 - $13k

Re: Need central AC or ductless AC rec
We had to replace our unit this past summer (so just the compressor and air handler but the ductwork was already there) and we used Apple air.. we were happy with the install.

Re: Need central AC or ductless AC rec
We did CAC traditional when we did our remodel. You would have to see if you have the space to do the duct a/c. They need places for all the return lines and ducts.

Re: Need central AC or ductless AC rec
We have ductless and love it. For us CAC would have been more expensive and taken up most of our attic space. The Ductless is also more energy efficient.
I have 3 units for the entire house, we definitely did not need one for each room.
I am always cold and don't like the house being freezing all the time so I like that I can turn the one on the bedroom to cool it off and then turn if off to sleep and still be comfortable.

Re: Need central AC or ductless AC rec
We installed a ductless unit with heat also in our basement in Aug 2012. Cost about $3K.
They are currently at our house installing a splut ductless unit (1 outside, 2 inside units) as we speak. DH is home with them. Both will also have heat. It would have been about $5K but cause we have slanted ceilings we needed a special indoor unit in the bedroom so it is a little more.
We used Apple AC both times and we have been very happy with their work. We didn't get quotes from anyone else this time since we knew we liked them last time.
It is more expensive to install Ductless than CAC. In our split level home we would never accomplish even air temps and we also would have to give up a tremendous amount of attic space for the duct work and a closet also. We were not willing to do that and still no have sufficient temperatures in some of the rooms. It is also more cost efficient to run ductless even tho the initial cost is more. We still have 2 bedrooms with regular wall AC's which we will eventually switch to another split unit on the. other side of our house.
