Need Design Help - Boys Room
I am redoing DS's room kind of .... I just bought him a toy box and want to buy a storage/bookcase also. I am not sure what colors to pick.
I was trying to avoid painting the walls, but I am not sure if I can avoid it ....
Here is the current colors. The walls are yellow cream and a light brown. The furniture is mahogany.
I just purcased this toy box
I am going to purchase these stacking storageunits (the double open storage on bottom and the bookcase on top) I am not sure if I should do it all in red or blue or a mix of the two.
If I was to pick the red storage, I was thinking of navy curtains so that there is too much red.
DS is getting a Potter Barn Anywhere chair for Christmas in Navy with a red dog
Any suggestions ... I am having trouble pulling this all together without spending a ton of money.
If I were to paint it, what colors would you do?

Re: Need Design Help - Boys Room
Are you keeping the current bedding? Does the crib convert into a toddler bed? How long do you want the new room to last - i.e. until age 5?

Re: Need Design Help - Boys Room
Do you have a photo of the current bedding? Am I also correct thinking that the rug and other matching accessories are also gone? What color is the new bedding? I would get both the red and the blue boxes to bring in the blue from the chair. The red hopefully will be a similar color red to the toy chest. As for paint, it depends upon what the bedding will look like.

Re: Need Design Help - Boys Room
DS is still in a crib, so no bedding --- just sheets. I will be buying red and blue sheets.
All of those accessories are gone.

I would repaint - it should not be that expensive to diy. You could just paint a couple of horozontal stripes over the yellow in blue and red and do the bottom in blue or red depending upon your preference. Alternatively you could get those stick up things that are like big colorforms for the walls to tie in the fireman theme. here is a link to a bunch of them linky
here are some firemen ones - i am not to crazy about these - but it was in line with what i was thinking.fremen wall art

I think you could just repaint the bottom half of the wall blue. Add some art and or shelves that pulls the red amd blue up on the wall.

Do you think painting just the bottom would look OK? That would be a ton easier (I have sheleves and wall letters and stuff up on the top half that are going to be a pain to remove or paint around).

Lisa, what an adorable room he had!
I love your red and navy idea. I would actually paint the bottom red, the top the color beige that you have on the bottom, navy curtains, and red and blue storage. That way, you can play around with the bedding and the area rug and the chair would look perfect in there!
ETA: Or you can paint just the top red...but then it might be too red...

I was actually going to suggest re-painting the top! I think the tan color is more neutral than the yellow. I think it would look nice if you did a shade of light blue on top and kept the bottom tan.
As far as the storage units goes, I would mix the colors and get red and blue for variety.
Can't believe you are getting rid of cottontail friends already!

I was thinking the same thing about painting the walls, but since you said how much of a PIA it will be to do the top, why don't you try doing the bottom in a blue color first and then see how you like it. The top color is pretty neutral too. It might look great with just a nice, navy-type blue and then add in the red like you were saying.
I LOVE that cottontail set. If I had done gender neutral, I definitely would have gotten that set. I thought about buying it from you, but since I'm not even pg with #2 yet, I figured I'd wait on that!

Re: Need Design Help - Boys Room
the sad part is, I didn't really use it. I had intentions of adding more 'cottontail decor' once I knew DC was a 'he' but never did anything!
So now, the room is really a blank slate and rather than try to just decorate around the drapes, I'd rather redo a more 'mature' room - just a bit more bold and boyish. I am not looking to go nuts, and realy do not want to get DH involved (hence the reason not to paint too much! )

Re: Need Design Help - Boys Room
I would repaint the top or the entire wall a light blue. I think it would go best with the dark furniture and navy curtains, chair & other accessories will go great with it. So will red. If you are keeping any color, keep the brown. The yellow will not go at all IMO. My boys' room is blue & red as the main colors. Their furniture is more of a honey so I went with a little deeper a blue on the walls but if my furniture was dark, I would have gone lighter.
ETA: I would do the storage pieces in just one color. Probably the red to balance out the other navy stuff. But def one color.
