Tony's DiNapoli - theater district - family style like Carmine's.

I agree.
Idk why people are suggesting "family style" for a date night

I recommended Carmine's because it is absolutely delicious!!!
DH and I have gone there for date nights and we take the leftovers home, so for us family style is ok.

Because you both pick a dish you like and share. Doesn't seem too odd to me. We do it all the time.

Eh I don't like Carmines.
Trattoria Dopo Teatro Bond 45 (not romantic, but delicious and fine for date night) Osteria Laguna Resette

Ok, not exactly in the area you requested but Esca is sooooooooo outrageously delicious! It's on 43rd and 9th. Upscale, Italian and perfect for a date night.

I competely agree about Esca. Maybe I'm picky but I'm not a fan of Carmine's, Tony di Napoli's, or Trattoria and would never consider them upscale--but then again I go to these places for lunch all the time and end up feeling like crap afterwards, infact I swear I got food poisoning at Tony Di Napoli's 2 weeks ago. All of these are very touristy. If you are looking for a nice Italian place I'd suggest getting out of the Rockefeller/GC area but if you are restricted, maybe one of these restaurants would be okay.
