NEED HELP ASAP!!! My dog is injured!
We were away for a few days and got home last night at 1:00am to find that one of my Huskies has a serious injury. The neighbor was watching them and doesn't know what happened. I have a stockade fenced in yard and have lived here for almost 4 years and never had problem. No one can figure out what happened to my dog. She is the sweetest dog I have ever had. We rescued her 6 years ago. Apparently she has this huge hole in her chest, some kind of puncture wound. You can literally see in her chest cavity. There is some blood all over the rugs in the house. She wasn't crying at all. We immediately brought her to Emergency care as soon as we got home and she is still there. The bill is already up there and now they're saying she needs surgery. Some kind of skin graphing because there is no skin there at all. It was all dead skin. I live in NC but am willing to drive to NY if I have to. We are beyond devastated. We love her soooo much. We haven't stopped crying since we got home. They're quoting the surgery from anywhere from $1,500-$8,000. There is just no way we can afford that. We don't know what to do?  I don't ever see my husband cry and even he is hysterical over this. She doesn't deserve this, and I feel she deserves the surgery to try to fix her. Please, I've already called all around here in NC for somewhere more affordable so we can save our girl, but haven't had any luck. I've tried the local universities to see if they would be cheaper since it's a teaching hospital but didn't find anything. Is there anyone here that can help us? It's a very serious injury and definitely needs skin graphing surgery. We can't let her die. Putting her to sleep is our only other option and we just can't. We love her soooo much. She's on pain meds right now and the surgeon here is seeing her tomorrow morning, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be VERY expensive. Does anyone know of any kind of research surgery up there in NY or NJ? We want to save her. She's part of the family. Please help!!! Thanks for reading!

I would try to contact humane societies. Town shelters won't do it, but large private ones may be willing to help. Maybe a NC version of ASPCA? If she's a purebred husky try calling husky rescues. That's probably your best bet. Most large humane societies have their own animal hospitals to treat cruelty cases that come in as well as provide vet services to offset the cost of running a shelter.
All vets want to get paid, so you're not going to find one to do it for free. You may find some "low cost" places in urban areas. You can do a yellowpage search for different cities close by and see what comes up that way, but skin grafting most like needs to be done by a specialist. which you are not going to find at a low cost vet.

im so sorry about ur dog and i hope that u can find help but i just wanna ask.... how did the neighbor that was watching her see her with such a serious injury and not do anything about it? is it possible that if she had medical attention sooner the injury might not be as serious?

OMG I am so sorry I don't know anyone that can help you. Maybe call Kathy116 DH. Brian at Jefferson animal Hospital in Port Jeff Station. He is fantastic. (631) 476-0415. It maybe worth a call.

Are you anywhere near Matthews? I have a GREAT vet that has always been reasonably priced. I don't know about with major procedures like that, but it may be worth a shot.
It's Matthews Animal Clinic, and the number is 704-847-9856.

I am sorry to hear of this. You do not say what is the diagnosis. The Humane Society in New York is a good hospital and so is the Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital at the ASPCA.
