Need help concerning High-Fiber Foods
I just got off the phone with DD's pediatricians office.
It seems that her bowel movements seem to be a little to solid for her and she having trouble going to the bathroom and when she does it has a little bit of blood on it (not in it)
So I called them and they told me to start giving her more High Fiber Foods.
Ok- me being the idiot that I am, could you tell me what I need to be feeding her to help her.
I know more fruit, juice - but I don't know what else.
Also she said to stay away from rice, pasta and potatoes. She really doesn't eat these things, but what else do I need to avoid?
Thanks for your help

My dd has the same problem !!
Try not to give too much dairy for that is also binding !! My doc suggested activia yogurt which I am going to buy today ! And Pear juice works great ! Try and give her lots of green veggies and mini wheats are also high in fiber !!

If my kids seem constipated I always give them Vitatops or Vitamuffins. They have a lot of fiber in them. They're in the frozen aisle at Stop and Shop.
ETA: They are 6g of fiber per serving.

Re: Need help concerning High-Fiber Foods
Alex is on a high fiber diet, like mommy and daddy We also don't eat a lot of rice, pasta, etc, but when we do, it's always whole grain, wheat or brown, even when we order Chinese.
A typical day for Alex is fiber cereal in the morning (i.e. bran flakes) with soy milk, and a piece of fruit. For lunch a typical meal for her is cottage cheese with some veggies, like cucumbers and cherry tomatoes, some hummus and pita, and a piece of fruit.
Dinner is usually fish with whole grain couscous and veggies, falafel with hummus and salad or some traditional israeli dishes with egg.
So, essentially, she eats a lot of fruits and vegetables, and whenever she does have carbs, it's always whole wheat. That, and lots of water throughout the day.

Re: Need help concerning High-Fiber Foods
Hi sweetie!
Aly just went to the gastro specialist because she has been having constipation problems for soo long now. The dr said to stay away from: rice breads pasta bananas too much dairy (we just cut back on th amount of milk and yogurt she takes in a day)
Fruits like strawberries and pears help them go. and green veggies.
We also use MIRALAX. Its a powder laxative that you mix into their juice or water. Its natural and they dont become dependent on it. maybe you can ask the dr if its K to try that if the diet adjustments dont work.
Hope Ali feels better!!!

This is what I was going to suggest.
I put it in their yogurt, homemade muffins, meatloaf, mixed with bread crumbs. I just sprinkled some into the stew I'm making.
Flax seed is also high in Omega 3 fatty acids.

Also, I make some really yummy muffins with bran flour, whole wheat flour and flaxseed, and will give it to her for breakfast or as a treat.

Re: Need help concerning High-Fiber Foods
Be careful with the Flaxseed - it is important to keep the dosage relatively low as Flax is a natural laxative. It is possible that very loose stools and/or diarrhea will occur with eating too much Flax.
