Need help! Dad's 60th Birthday (long, sorry)

Maybe some of you are more creative than I am...

My dad's turning 60 in January. It's a milestone birthday, and my 2 brothers and I would like to do something really nice for him. Combined, we'd like to keep it under $1000. That said...

He's made it clear he doesn't want a party, he doesn't need OR want anything tangible for a gift, and pretty much his only hobby is golf. We'd love to send him & my mom on a long weekend away to play golf together, but... it'll be January.

Also, I now live in CA as does one brother, and the youngest is away at college - so we're limited on how much we can do in person. We already ruled out a cruise and concert tix (we generally give those every year for Christmas), and the 3 of us are OUT of good ideas.

Sooooo what do you guys think? Do any of you have dads who loved something you did for their birthday once? I'll take any suggestions at all, even farfetched ones. Help spark my creativity, please!!!

Well, you mentioned a golf outing. I think you could find a great golf resort in Florida for under $1,000. That would be a great vacation since they'd be getting out of cold NY ( I think that's where they live) and they'd be enjoying golf, plus you can plan the whole thing right from the comfort of your own home.

ooh, I didn't even think about them going somewhere ELSE to golf... and there are flight specials often from NY to FL... thanks! See, this is why I need other people to do my thinking for me

I was thinking the same thing with the Golf weekend. If you can't find anything in FL try Hilton Head, SC. It's very nice down there and they should have some sort of specials going on.
