Re: Need help introducing cat to dog

This is my boyfriends dog. DD has been pretty good. Its a long story and Im sorry its confusing. DD is fine around dog .. but cat was different story (its been months since she has been exposed to cat so maybe I was wrong)
I want to see if everyone can be together and maybe I can keep the cat, right now she is separated and I dont want to keep her like that. Im trying too see if this can work out.

Re: Need help introducing cat to dog

I'm not sure what your living situation is, but when we got Misty this is what we did.
Espresso had been with us since he was a kitten and was over a year old when we got Misty (who was 8 months old with no real exposure to cats).
We would keep Misty in her crate and let Espresso walk around freely when we weren't home and when we did get home we would either keep Misty in the bedroom with us or bring her into the rest of the house on a leash. She could sniff Espresso, but if she lunged at him she got reprimanded.
We did this for about a week or so and then started letting her off the leash while we were home. Same thing, reprimanding her if she went after Espresso.
Within a month they were fine together...and almost 4 years later, we catch them sleeping together.Chat Icon

I am so confused. Are you rehoming the cat due to the dog or DD? From this post sounds to me like it has more to do with the dog than DD< forgive me if I am wrong.

I think she is saying that her DD isn't allergic to the dog, but that her DD hasn't been exposed to the cat for a while (when she was exposed she had an allergic reaction). Since she can't find a shelter to take the cat, she is trying to acclimate the animals and then see how her DD handles it allergywise.
Of course, I could be wrong....

Your right. Could have wrote it better. Its been day 2 and Im slowly exposing my DD to her, letting her pet her and get to know her. My main concern now is the DOG and Cat... need some advice on how to introduce them...

Re: Need help introducing cat to dog

Dog is cool, just curious he is older and has past exp with cats (thats another whole story..lol). Priscilla freaked out when I first brought her some., she hissed and arched her back and her tail hair sticking out straight!
She wants to come upstairs but is sooo cautious. One time she came up to the door and the dog was there. she hissed and they just stared @ each other..(they were about 4ft apart) for a few moments, then the dog looses interest and walked away....Chat Icon
