Need help making chicken soup
I have no idea where/how to begin. Can somebody please tell me how they make it? I just got a dutch oven for Christmas and I'd like to make soups for my kids so they can have less salt than the canned varieties. Thanks!

Re: Need help making chicken soup
to make stock: 1 whole chicken (or chicken pieces w/bone) 6 cups water 3 stalks celery, broken in half (with leaves) 3 carrots, broken in half 1 large onion, quatered 4 cloves garlic, whole seasoning: kosher salt, pepper, onion powder, italian seasonining, dill, parsley
In large pot, simmer chicken and the above ingredients for 1-1/2 hours. No need to get rid of the onion or garlic skins or peel the carrot. Just wash everything before you put it in the water ...
Strain stock back into pot. Throw out vegetables. Once chicken cools, shred meat and put back into pot. Add: 3-4 diced carrots 2 thinly sliced celery stalks Simmer for 20-30 minutes until vegetables are tender. Reseason to Taste (adding onion powder, italian seasoning, dill, salt, etc... to get the flavor as intense as you like)
Cool down and ladle into tupperwares for future use ...
Add precooked pasta, rice or noodles when serving. Or you can precook, rinse then add when you want to separate into tuppwerwares. Just don't over fill with starch, it will turn into gumbo....

Wash a remove giblets from whole chicken. Pat dry and set aside.
Dice one carrot, celry and half onion and saute in large soup pot. When onions are soft, add garlic and cook until it is just about to brown. Add the chicken and brown the skin on both sides. Cover the chicken with water and add the rest of the veggetables and cook on high until boiling. Once it boils, lower heat, cover and simmer for approximately three hours. Add water as needed.

Re: Need help making chicken soup
I like to boil a whole chicken with turnips, parsnips, onions, carrots, celery, garlic, salt, pepper, and grated cheese. Boil it for a looooong time. Serve with orzo. Easy and delicious.

Whole chicken, parsnip, turnip, onion, celery, onion, carrots, dill and parsley, salt and black pepper
I put the chicken in first let it simmer and skim all the fat and stuff that floats to the top
I then slowly add all the veggies and salt and pepper then I add the dill and parsley
