Need Help with water in finished basement
So we just moved into our new house a month ago. We were told that there had never been flooding in the finished basement. After the rain this morning, I came home to find two very large wet areas on the rug. I can't find where it came in. Can anyone tell me what the best way is to now get the wetness out of the basement? It is in the carpet as well as the padding under the carpet is soaked. I appreciate anyones help!

Re: Need Help with water in finished basement
I bought my house 5/31 and was told the basement never flooded also but with all the freak weather the storm last month flooded ours. We decided to remove the carpet where it was wet and will replace it later on, use a shop vac and get all the water you can out. My husband cleaned all the gutters since then and today we had no trouble. The gutters were so clogged with leaves and dirt that is why the basement leaked. good luck

Re: Need Help with water in finished basement
We have had the same problem with that big storm in July, and I am praying our house didn't flood this mornimolng--we're not living there yet so I'll know when DH goes there tonight.
We rented a carpet cleaner that also works as an extractor from the hardware store. I would say to do this ASAP, otherwise the carpet will get smelly fast. Then we cleaned the carpet when it dried. We didn't have padding under ours, but I heard that if you do have padding, you may need to remove the carpet and clean that also, otherwise the padding will smell and can get moldy.
We were told the basement never flooded, and there was no sign of water damage, but our gutters were very clogged. DH cleared the ones at the front of the house, though we still need to get someone over to clear some very high ones at the back. Check your gutters, that could be the problem.
