need ideas for "Big Sister" Gift - 2 1/2 yo

I want to get something special for DD,
also something she could play with while I am busy with DD#2.

my dd was the same age when we had dd last yr...we got her a baby (like Mommy's! ), a stroller, car seat, basinett and diaper bag set from fisher price (i think it was a little mommy one?? - they sold them at costco!) she loved it and played with it all the time, she still does, and now dd#2 does too...we liked it too since it allowed us to use teachable moments to help her be a good big sister - i.e.: how even though her babies like the blankets over their head, Kristina did not; how her babies might enjoy sleeping face down, but Kristina would not and if she saw it ever to come and tell us, etc.... )

i also gave her a small doodle pro that I kept in my diaper bag for her to use at ped appts for her sister, plus coloring books and crayons!

good luck! (and in our experience, and those who have seen my girls in action, it is the perfect age gap!!! - they get along wonderfully and Sammie is such a big help and great big sister!!! )

my DD got her baby & items for Christmas and loves it. She's so excited for the baby to come out. I think she's going to be a wonderful big sister and huge help. There is not a day that goes by that she doesn't say what she's going to do and teach "Baby Raisin" (her name for her)

I bought this photo album for DD#1 when #2 was born. She loved showing off pics of her and her sis. I got it at Cottontails in Stonybrook but you can order online. It is made by Gund.



I also made a big bag of crayons, coloring books, stickers, books, snacks etc for the hospital.

We got the Fisher Price loving family dollhouse. The mega set that you can get a TRU comes with a bunch of furniture as well as a mom, dad, big sister and twin babies.

DD was and still is VERY into imaginitive play and it was a good forum for her to actually "see" where she fit into the family. It also allowed her to role play and gave me a better idea of what was going on in her head.

Now that DD's are 18 months and 3 1/2 they play with it together.

It's not cheap, but it has held up really well. I like that the furniture and people are all contained in the house when it is folded up. I also liked the idea that you can add on additional furniture and additional family members at a later date.
