Need ideas for cold buffet for 1st birthday

We are holding DS' birthday party at Cedar Creek Park and the theme is the Hungry Caterpillar. We are expecting about 40 people, mostly adults, maybe 10 kids.

We want to go with a cold buffet, suggestions welcome.

Here's what we are thinking of getting:

Cold cut platters
Fruit salad
Regular Salad
Pasta/Potato Salads
Cole Slaw
Watermelon
Cupcakes for dessert

Any other ideas? Do you think the kids will eat cold cuts (mine do)? If not, any other cold ideas? We don't want to have to worry about keeping things hot.

If I were having a Very Hungry Caterpillar theme, I'm pretty sure I would be putting out small platters of the types of foods in the story like plums, strawberries, lollipops etc


Otherwise everything else sounds fine- I think kids would cold cuts/cheese but maybe more so if you skewered them or rolled them up cigar style so its more fun!

Thanks, the cold cuts come rolled up on the platter.

And yes, I plan on incorporating the foods from the story into each platter with little signs in front of them.

Maybe some cheeses the kids will like? American, cheddar, colby, mozzarella?
