Need Ideas/ Help for decorating this room.
Oh god. I am so afraid of this decorating. We only have a one bedroom house and can't extend in this economy. Most if not all of our equity is gone! So for the first year.. We will have a baby in our room.. Any suggestions. HEre is the room.
So we thought.. even though it makes me sad... we would get rid of the bedframe and just get a metal frame for the bed. Then move the dresser to the other side of the bed and lose the night table. Then we would take the tall skinny dresser, paint it red and put it in the living room. And then make the alcove the baby's nook. We planned to paint it the green from the curtains and the bedspread. And maybe put a sheer curtain up with tie backs to separate it from the rest of the room. I totally thought we could fit a crib and a dresser with a changer pad on top... But after one trip to BBB I am thinking I was so wrong!!
Help.. Who knows of some smaller furniture or something I can do?
The other thought was to get a changer only and put that in the bathroom in place of a laundry hamper/bench I have in there. Then take the tall skinny dresser and give it the baby and get a new piece of furniture for DH and put it in the living room.
ETA I found this crib. It might be a good idea. It is a bit longer but not too high and above the drawers is a changer. Daphne Crib
And then I found this bed..
Bed with storage
i would just have to figure out to coordinate the colors.

I woudl clear out that corner where you have the dresser adn put the crib/ changing table in there.....
You could even paint that corner a different color and hang curtains on the outside of the entry way to make it a little more private and make it look more like a seperate room. I hope that makes sense!

What if you got a new bed - like a platform bed that has drawers underneath so that you can use that and eliminate one of the dressers?

I wouldn't paint the baby's 'alcove' area green if you're leaving the rest of the bedroom walls red ..........- Maybe a cream color or something? I think the sheer curtains could be a nice touch if you hand them from the ceiling and get ones long enough to touch the floor -
Do you have a low dresser as part of your bedroom set that you can use as a changing table? - I'd probably just put the crib in that alcove, seems a bit tight for both - You don't NEED a changing table/pad - You can safely change the baby on the bed, the floor, a table, etc ..........

LOL..That was exactly my plan. But then I thought that a bed and changer wouldn't fit. I wanted to get a dresser/changer combo since the house is so so small and having dh's dresser in the living room is already going to be a lot. But the dresses I saw were soo big!!
DH and my Dad are going to build a cedar closet in the celler to keep a lot of our clothes in. That should help a bit. But I don't want to run down there every day for our dresser!

No we don't have low dresser Add a few few feet on the left side of the bed and that's it for the room! We have a night table next to the bed. I don't really want to get a changer either. I just can't believe the size of the baby dresser I saw at the stores!
Maybe if I just got another dresser like the unpainted one you see in the picture. We could use that for the baby and I guess that would fit in the space with the crib.
Then we could still move that other one into the living room for DH and use the bed to change.. etc. I do need to get a new bed though because the tall dresser is wider than the night table and it would mean moving the bed over a few inches and totally eliminating any abilty to walk around the bed to the other side of the roomm
A platform bed isn't a bad idea. I should look into that!

Re: Need Ideas/ Help for decorating this room.
What if you buy a new bed w/ the drawer space underneath ?? That will save you from having to put DH's dresser in your LR .......-
You could do some shelving in the baby's area along w/ the crib to create some storage space for him/her

there are a few companies that make more compact cribs/furniture... Maybe you can look into gettting more "petite" furniture for that room

I just did a quick search for beds with storage underneath and that might be a good option. I have to measure it all out. but maybe??

I thought about that.. But then, do the babies grow out of that stuff faster? I don't want to have to buy a new crib in 6 months and be back to square one, you know?

They are just a bit smaller but the baby still has plenty of room... Think of HOW MUCH room a baby has in a regular crib.... they really don't need that much room!

Re: Need Ideas/ Help for decorating this room.
OHhh I just had an idea. My mom just did this in her room. She sunk cabinets in her walls so they looked like built ins. I could do that on the wall opposite the crib and sink in some cabinets for the babies clothes and maybe some shallow drawers OR just keep baskets for sock and stuff in the cabinets! Geez I could do a whole wall of them and not lose any floor space!!
What do you think?
CRUD.. Forget it.. Just called DH and he said that the wall isn't deep enough for that and my Mom sunk those cabinets into a crawl space.. Now... If I could convince him to give up the bottom half of his closet space... we could sink them on the other side... LOL.. He already goes, "leave my closet out of this"

Is there a closet in your bedroom? Can you put the babys dresser in the closet?

Re: Need Ideas/ Help for decorating this room.
Nope.. The closet is totally full. Not a walk in. Dh actually has his stuff in the front entry closet. We are sooo short on space!
