need ideas- student battling cancer
One of my 8th grade students has been battling bone cancer since mid-september. The class just found out today why he's been out for so long, and they're definitely upset and want to cheer him up.
Any ideas of things we can send to him as a whole class? We know he's been in his house alot and can't go out much at all. The only person he really sees is his homebound instructor. So he's gotta be a little bored. He should be returning back to school in the Spring.
Some things we thought of were: a head shaving event to raise money for him and his family and gift basket with random things to keep him busy

Aww! Man I hate hearing things like that. I’ll think about it but in the meantime can you do a FaceTime call or send a video of all of you?

it is sad, I like Anonymousuers idea too. Why not ask his mom what she thinks he might like acitivty wise. I always say, a card signed by the class or each person making a home made card, He can read what his class mates are writing. If he is in treatment he might be limited with regard to food based items sent items.

Oh God. This poor kid and his family. 8th grade is prime age for osteosarcoma. I hope they caught it early.
I would say cards, snacks, gift cards for video games, books. Anything to keep his mind off things. Not sure if you way to do anything for the parents, but gift card for takeout would be nice for the whole family.

Does your school have a robot where he can send it from class to class? That might give him more of a feeling of being connected. My friend's son is battling cancer. She said individual cards, notes, and calls have helped. See what the family wants.

Yes they caught it fairly early. He was complaining that his ankle hurt in school in Sept, then he was on crutches just 2 days later, and then a week after that he was gone. Supposedly they were on top of it very quickly

How about an iPad so he can communicate with the class? They're inexpensive now. Or a kindle fire?
