Need landscaping help

Anyone have a suggestion for bushes, shrubs, trees, etc. that are tall and narrow? We are close to our neighbors on one side and would like to plant something along the fence that will block the view of their house somewhat. We don't have a ton of room on that side so we don't want them to be wide growing, but want something that gets tall and stays fairly thick at the top. It's a strange space because we are set high (highest point in neighborhood and we have a basement) but they don't have a basement and are down the hill a bit also. Thanks for any suggestions!
