need mold testing/removal company!
I think i found mold in the basement and I am flipping out! Can anyone recommend a company that will test it and then clean/up and remove it! I am so upset right now. I am pregnant and really don't want to deal with this right now. TIA

Re: need mold testing/removal company!
I don't really have any advice except BE CAREFUL of who you call!!!!
I had the same situation and called three "waterproof your basement" types of companies - all seemed legit.
After sitting with us for two - FIVE hours, scaring us with pictures of mold, each company wanted to charge over $75,000 for my less than 500 sf basement. When we said no, obviously, they ALL pulled the "oh, wait, let me call the office. Okay - we had a cancellation, if you book now we can put you in that spot for next week and we will only charge $50,000."
I swear to you, it was like a rerun of a movie each time - same script - and my DH and I were stunned.
DH's cousin came over and convinced DH to rip down a small part of the sheetrock to see if we actually HAD a mold PROBLEM or if it was just a bit in those few spots. Turns out, it was just a very little bit from some past dampness on the bottom of the sheetrock only. The walls behind were perfectly clear. DH ripped it out, we fixed all possible sources of water and are now mold free and well, $75,000 less in the hole.
So, moral of the story - before you panic, make sure you have a real trustworthy handyman or contractor take a look at it first (NOT THE BASEMENT GUYS!!!).

Try Professional Building Inspectors - Paul Gressin - 516-295-2581. They do mold inspections and can probably point you in the right direction regarding abatement. Also,
516-781-3000 - Action Environmental. Also,
RTK Environmental: 800-392-6468
Hope this helps! Good luck.

ITA. You need someone who does mold assessment and remediation. The basement companies just want to sell you a system that most likely will not fix the problem. We had to get some quotes due to a mold spot while in contract. We only got quotes because we bought from a relocation company and they were willing to fix it. What they wanted to sell us was basically a system to help funnel water inside the house through interior drainage. It was not solving the actually problem of removing the water away from the house. My Dh knew to solve the problem you needed french drains.
I have companies to recommend but they are in Westchester and CT.
