This time, when i put the CD in the "trash" I get a message that says "The disc ____ is in use and could not be ejected. Try quitting the application and ejecting again"
But I have no applications running!!!

There is a button above the delete button (to the right of F12) that is the eject button for the CD.
HTH!

LMAO, only b/c I've had a CD stuck in my macbook for a week now/ I drag mine to the trash. It makes a sound like it is ejecting and nothing.

usually if you shut down and restart and doing it right after restart it will work. If not hit and select the file and force quit. IF that doesn't work then go to applications, utilities, activity monitor, select the cd and then quit process. if you do not see a cd then check to see if the program that would open the cd (itunes, photo, etc) is running then quit process then drag to the trash.
