Need opinions here... to go or not to go? To tell or not to tell?

I have been trying to plan our summer vacation and part of it involves staying at a bed and breakfast (me, DH and DS who will be nine). I finally found one I like that is in our budget so I booked it. After reading up a bit on it, I see that there is a ghost that has been seen there. I asked the owner about it and she says friendly and only seen in a particular room (not the room we will be in). I am waiting to see if she knows the background of this ghost). First... would you still stay there or find someplace else? If you would still stay, would you tell your nine year old? It will be for three nights. TIA.

It depends on your 9yr old. Will he be scared and traumatized or is he type that thinks it's cool and into that stuff? Or wouldn't mind it? If you think it will effect him badly then I would keep it myself.

See me, I would love to go there and even stay in the room with the ghost. I even think my 5yr old DS could handle, now DH on the other hand. Hell no, I would have to keep that to myself cause he is a chicken sh!t.

I would never tell my DS but he's the type who would obsess about it and sleeping would be a nightmare for the whole family.

I wouldn't stay there! I am not sure about my thoughts on ghosts but it would turn me off to the place. Thats just me anyway. If you plan to go and it doesnt bother you, I don't think I would tell your son.

DH and I stayed at a bed and breakfast known to be inhabited by spirits. I honestly could not sleep either night and was freaking out the entire time. I know I felt someone holding my hand one night, and it was not on the side of the bed where DH was.

I couldn't do it again. And if I was a kid, I would've been petrified.

I believe in good spirits, but it was just too much...staying in an unfamiliar place, very old-fashioned building, a lot of history, the unknown, the deaths of the spirits were unpleasant, some violent, etc.

Ghosts aren't scary. I believe my father still watches over us.

I'd stay and not think twice about it. Its not like they said it was a violent ghost. Would I tell my son? Heck my daughter at 5 would LOVE to see if she could 'catch a glimpse' of the ghost.

It would make no difference.


ETA: unless you're in a fairly new home/hotel etc.. someone has almost always either been a victim of violence, lost someone close or someone has died inside or on that property. NY is too old for it not to be the case. We as a world are too old. So ghost could literally be everywhere and anywhere. Just think of the sheer number of dead. So if you want to believe that they will hurt you or scare you then they can. Otherwise if you ignore them or realize you are alive and they are not, then you're fine.

Ironically i live in a house only 7yrs old. No ghosts here. but the apt we were in in NY had one who didn't do a thing until after AJ was born and it kept her occupied and turned on her mobile. I miss it actually. Hope it isn't too sad we left.

I would not stay! But that's because I'm scared shit of that stuff. Lol. And I definitely would not tell your 9 yr old. Btw is this bed and breakfast in cape may NJ by any chance??

I've stayed with my DS and DD at places that supposedly have ghosts and none of us never saw or felt a thing. The staff at one was surprised. But, I don't believe in ghosts and have raised my kids not to either.

I think once people are dead, they are dead. Someone was poisoned by his wife in my house and I have never sensed a thing.

Why would you want to subject your child to that? You would potentially be setting him/her up for nightmares, and a horrible trip. I would find another place to stay to be honest!

I would go, and probably not even think twice. I don't really believe in that enough for it to bother me.

I would definitely not tell my DS about it though - you don't want to potentially cause nightmares or have him staying up to try and see something.

I would probably stay there because I take ghost stuff with a grain of salt, especially when it comes to tourism and making money. I would probably err on the side of caution with telling the child the place is haunted, depending on their personality around stuff like that. Especially if they are going to be in a separate room.

If you don't believe in it don't worry about it. If you do well you should know most all famous hotels and non famous are as well. The glen cove mansion, montauk manor, mohonk house...have you ever stayed at any of those places?

I would go and probably not mention to 9yp.

Well, DH couldn't keep his mouth shut so he asked DS if he wanted to stay somewhere with a ghost. He told him it was friendly. DS said "Like Casper? Yes I want to stay there. What will I name him..." I think DH is the one with reservations about staying there!
