Need paint color advice - Update Painting is done!

We have a high ranch and we're getting ready to paint our large family room that is on the lower level of our house. The room is approx. 18x26 and currently has oak colored wainscotting. The room is usually somewhat dark, so we're trying to lighten it up a bit.

We're painting the walls a beige or tan color (haven't decided on a color yet). Should we paint the wainscotting white or keep it as is?

Here's a picture of our current room, don't mind the mess!

Thanks!

Here's our new room, we went with BM Shaker Beige!

Re: Need paint color advice

Personal preference would be to paint it. The wood grain looks a little dated.

I'd paint it white. It will freshen up the entire room to a whole new level.

I agree with pp, personal preference is for it to be white. I would then do a deep shade of beige for the top so there is some contrast. You don't have to go too dark but you want something to contrast the white, KWIM.

I have Behr Clean Air color paint and I like it with the white, it is a yelowish beige.

I would paint it white, we have something similar in our basement that we plan to paint...

I would paint it white. Would lighten the whole room and then you have more options on top since you could go with a lighter or darker shade in contrast with the white.

Re: Need paint color advice

Thanks everyone! Looks like we'll be buying more paint!

For the top color, looking at manchester tan, monroe bisque, shaker beige or bleeker beige. Going to get some samples and see if we like any of these!

Thanks!
