Need ped neurologist and orthopedic recommendations
So after many different issues we've been having with my 18 month old DS he got a diagnosis of mild cerebral palsy and I'm looking for neurologist/orthopedic recommendations in Suffolk county. We've gone to one of each so far and I just want some other opinions and options. TIA!

Why not try a physiatrist? Dr. Jennifer Semel from St. Charles is Amazing!

Re: Need ped neurologist and orthopedic recommendations
My son has mild cp and sees David Roye for ortho at Columbia. He is the head of the cp center at Morgan Stanley children's hospital. We also see Zipora Feffer at Lij for neurology. I k ow these are both not Suffolk, but we have been very happy with them!
Eta- we also see a physiatrist, Hilary Berlin, at st Mary's in Roslyn. They have a unique non surgical perspective and do a lot of the same things an orthopedist does. Some do either/or but we do both!

Re: Need ped neurologist and orthopedic recommendations
Thanks ladies. This is all new to me. What can/does a physiatrist do that's different?

Re: Need ped neurologist and orthopedic recommendations
A physiatrist is a rehab dr who specializes in nerves, muscles and bones. They look at the "whole" person. As an OT it's was nice to see Dr Semel actually sit there with me and read through my DD's PT report and listen to my concerns as a parent. She asked me a ton of question regarding DD history and functioning level. She got down on the floor with her, ran with her and played with her. She was extremely through. She ended up prescribing DD bilateral AFOs along with PT we see Dr Semel every 6 months.

We use South Shore Neurologic in Patchogue, but they have several offices in Suffolk. They've been great.
