This has never happened to me before. The timer popped before the meat thermometer reached 180 degrees. Is it because it is stuffed? Should I let it cook until the thermometer reaches 180? I have one of those thermometers that you stick in the bird and it stays in while you cook it. This is the biggest turkey I've cooked. 15lbs. I kept it in the oven for now. I should just keep it in until it reaches temperature, right? TIA!

Thanks ladies! 1 more question. It's been in the oven since 9:30 on 325. That's 6 hours. Does a 15lb plus turkey take that long too cook? The inside is at 169 degrees right now. So I'd say about another hour or so it'll be cooking.

ETA: I just took the aluminum foil tent off of it too. If that makes a difference.

The dial says 325, but have you ever "calibrated" the oven by using a freestanding thermometer in the oven?

180 degrees is an old guideline. 165 is the new standard. A turkey should cook 15 minutes per pound at 325 approx. I definitely think your turkey is ready.
