need rec for child therapist ....specific issue
I am writing on behalf of a friend. This is for her 4 year old daughter who most likely has selective mutism. Amazing smart chatty kid until in public or even with her daycare teachers that she has known for years. She nneeds a rec for a therapist who specializes in this. Preferably nassau county. Tia!!!!

I don't know any but I got a flyer in the mail (I'm a SLP) for Unlocking the Mystery of Selective Mutism and Social Anxiety. www.pesi.com. it's in Melville on 4/27. meant for professionals, but maybe something to look into. I know there is a book called The Worried Child by Paul Foxman, PhD.

Another option is Hofstra University's Saltzman Center. Graduate psychology students are supervised by licensed psychologists and are very behavioral so would work well with this also.

Re: need rec for child therapist ....specific issue
Thank goodness they are seeking help.
I have a BIL that has it & has since childhood. He refused a lot of the help he could have had, has severe social anxiety also. He's in his 30's and I can't see it ever getting better.
