Need some help writing an email to my wedding videographer!!
It's almost 2 years since my wedding & I still DO NOT have a video.
This is a very popular vendor from LIW & I am pretty annoyed at this point.
We submitted our songs, pics, etc to them early October '08. Heard nothing from them for months. Then I finally emailed them in Feb asking what the status was. They told me I'm still on the list- there were several people in front of me & that they should be contacting me in April to start the video process. Well, I have been busy & now it's June & I have not heard from them.
I want my video NOW but I don't want to come across nasty b/c I still want them to do a good job. Seriously, it's 9 months later and I still don't have a video but they have my $4k
Please help. How would you start this email?

Did you call in addition to e-mail? My wedding was in 2005 but I had so many vendors who didn't "do" e-mail. Even the ones who should have been computer savvy had that attitude and even the ones I loved just had that quirk. I hope they have caught up with the times by now! My video guy was not fast but he was just so meticulous with editing. I doubt it's the same guy, though because he kept us posted all along.

Sounds like he hires too many videographers and not enough editors... Typical. I filmed and edited wedding videos professionally when I was in college (my undergraduate degree is in film). It doesn't take that long in reality for a good editor to put the video together...
What does your contract say about timing? If he's in violation of the contract or there is marketing material you received that refers to how long it takes to complete the video, include that in the letter. You don't ever need to be nasty, but you do need to be firm. If he's going to do a bad job on your video because you were firm, then he's going to look like an even bigger schmuck -- late and did a crappy job.
here's what i suggest:
Dear Videographer,
I am writing to request a date certain by which I will receive my wedding video. As you are well aware, my wedding took place nearly two years ago, I have paid for my wedding video in full, and I still do not have my video. I provided you with everything necessary to complete the video on October [day], 2008, and was last told you would be contacting me in April. (See email from you to me dated February __, 2009). It is now June. Not only do I not have my wedding video, I have not heard from you since your February __, 2009 email. This is completely unacceptable and you certainly will understand that I am frustrated and upset by the delay and your lack of communication.
I understand that you have other clients, but the delay in completing my wedding video is excessive, especially considering I paid for the video - in full - [number] months ago. I expect to hear from you by [date - give him 5 days or so] to let me know exactly which date - in the near future - I can pick up my completed wedding video. I look forward to receiving what I know will be an excellent video.
The best number to reach me is 555-555-5555 and I am generally available between [times].

Sounds like they do email since they communicated by email in February.
I agree following up with phone calls is important, but I would also want a paper trail in this situation...

Yes, they do email. In fact, during wedding planning, they responded to my emails right away but when I called, it seemed like they screened their calles - the machine always picked up.

I never got anything in writing claiming that they have a certain amt of time to finish the video.
You are right, firm means that I mean business! I think I will call them first & after our convo will send them a email to summarize our convo.

How about a walk in, right into their office. I'm sure on a busy Saturday when other clients are around, they will be MORE than willing to help you out.

My videographer did the same thing to me. Although I waited 11 months to get them the pictures and songs. But it took them another 11 months to get me the first draft. I just picked up the final copy the other day. I have to watch it to make sure everything is correct.
I just emailed them for a status every other month.
