 I am so sorry you have to go through this. I am not sure if you've ever had a CVS or not but its really not that bad. It is a very quick procedure. Hopefully they will get your results to you ASAP. Where are you having this done? We went to NSLIJ and they were wonderful there. I wish you luck and pray all comes back ok. It's not fair that you have to deal with this and the fact that you will have to make decisions is even worse. Hang in there. We are all here for you for support and prayers.

I copied and pasted this b/c it explained it better than I could.
"The increased thickness of the skin fold reflects the increased edema – or fluid congestion in the subcutaneous tissue, and the accumulation is commonly due to failure to establish normal lymphatic flow into the blood circulation. This condition is associated with many genetic syndromes, like Down’s Syndrome, and major heart defects. In a small group of such affected fetuses, there may be no abnormal condition found despite doing all diagnostic tests, and the fetuses eventually were normal."
How it's been explained to me is this....A fetus can have a heart defect in utero that corrects itself before birth. (ASDs...VSDs...PDAs...can all correct themselves....) Because of the heart condition the fetus can present itself with the increased edema.
On another note...a child with Down Syndrome can have a normal NT at the time of the scan. This is usually b/c those fetuses, with DS, didnt have a heart defect...That is why the NT is the scan and the blood work.
Im not an expert on this...but my eldest daughter has Down Syndrome. So I tend to spend a lot of my time chatting with new parents....I also went to school with the intentions of becoming a genetic counselor...so my experience is pretty vast. Although..admittedly...that was a million years ago. (My daughter will be 18 in January)

I will be having it at Winthrop Perinatal Associates in Mineola. That's who my OB is sending me to.

Than you everyone! I am headed out soon for the CVS testing! I will need the most prayers in the waiting period! I expect ot get the results back sometime next week, after the holiday!

This may sound silly but do you, your dh, or any members of your family have thick necks or big heads? I ask because a friend of mine had a huge scare at her nt scan and at her anatomy scan. They said her dd's fold was way to big and wanted a CVS and then an amnio afte rthey refused the cvs. The baby is just fine and it is genetics. Her father was a football player as are his brothers and his father was. Huge necks run in the family! I just wanted to send thoughts and encouragment your way and tell you a good story about this!
