need some reassurance- or tell me its time to worry
my 9 month old still doesnt get on all fours, or pull to standing. she does creep- usually uses the same hand first. meaning she reaches with one hand, other hand under tummy, and pushes with legs. then repeats, with same hand reaching out first - doesnt alternate hands. she reaches for toys with both hands though. going to discuss all this with ped at next visit- about 3 weeks, but when do i worry? do i worry?

Re: need some reassurance- or tell me its time to worry
I wouldn't worry. DS is 10 months and doesn't pull to standing or crawl. He can get around by creeping on the floor but usually backwards or by rolling. I think it is normal that some kids just don't.
In terms of the hands, during my last ped. visit he said that as long as they can pass something from their right hand to their left then they're on track.
I can understand the worry. Even though I know it is normal that some kids don't, I really want my DS to crawl soon.

Don't worry
Christopher didn't do all of that til the weekend that he turned one, and now at 12.5 months he is a maniac and all over the house.

Re: need some reassurance- or tell me its time to worry
DD will be 9 months old in 2 weeks and does the exact same thing. Kind of a commando crawl. She is only just starting to get up on all fours but rolls over as soon as she does.
I'm not worried and I don't think you need to be either. It sounds like she is getting mobile in her own way. Definitely discuss at your next ped's visit but I don't think it's a problem.
I was talking to people at our music class and someone told me her almost 10 month old was not crawling or creeping yet, and the same happened with her older daughter who is now 3 and perfectly fine. Another mom told me her daughter (who was leaping across the room) never crawled and walked at 17 months.

Re: need some reassurance- or tell me its time to worry
I wouldn't worry too much about it. Backwards crawling is usually a good sing that forward crawling will happen soon. One thing that may help is to get down on the floor with him & crawl. I had my toddler teaching my infant how to crawl. BUT if you're concerned I would call Early Intervention after you speak to your pediatrician. Always, ALWAYS listen to your gut.
I'm not saying it to make you panic but you know your child best. I've seen peds say things are fine for many things, only to have the mom's gut instinct be correct. Luckily the moms followed through with early invention & second opinions. I'm talking about everything from finding out their child was deaf (the ped thought the child was stubborn & not listening, EI told her she was correct) to a tumor (ped who was saying something was an enlarged lymph node on the head that would go down, second opinion found out he was wrong).

ok, let's talk hands for a second then. I wasn't referring to them doing these things while on their belly. I meant like if she is sitting down. I think it is ok if she always reaches with the same hand first to grab. Probably just showing her preferance. However, if she is sitting down and grabs something lets say with her right hand, can she pass it to the left and back and forth?

Re: need some reassurance- or tell me its time to worry
I wouldn't worry too much about the crawling thing. I know many many babies that didn't crawl until 10/11 months. If you have a geniune concern about it though, like Barbara said, speak to EI. I guarantee your ped. will say there is nothing wrong, because so many of them do (including my son's ped. unfortunately). My theory is, it's better to catch a problem early on than later on.

i'm going to wait till next ped appt, if shes still doing it with the hands, i will probably call. i'm not sure my ped will ignore it- hes really proactive. he was considering doing bloodwork on her - not sure what kind- cuz she didnt gain mroe than a couple of ounces for 2-3 months in a row

that's great, then I think there is probably nothing to worry about.
