Need Tips/Suggestions

Our closing is scheduled for next week and i'm getting so nervous about painting/decorating.

I am absolutely TERRIBLE at this. I know what I like when I see it, but I have no idea how to get there or what needs to be done first. When i'm trying to think of what I want to do in my head, I almost seem like i'm doing a different "style" all over the house.

any suggestions on maybe picking a starting point or ideas??

I'm not sure if this question makes sense. I know I LOVE Pottery Barn, that dark furniture with a big square mirror and lots of drawers for our bedroom, maybe Taupe for the Living Room.....Chat Icon I'm all over the place.

Re: Need Tips/Suggestions

Try to find inspiration pieces.. a vase, a piece of furniture, a mirror etc for each room and work around that. Also, i've gotten SO many ideas from watching HGTV!

well that's what i'm worried about is the Paint b/c we'll probably have it painted before we move in. I don't want to choose colors that won't look right, etc. Didn't think this would be so stressful :)

dont stress- paint is cheap- cost us about $100 to paint our living room- which is our biggest room- if you pick the wrong color than you can start over cheaply.

we picked neutrals for most of the house- except for the living room- since we spend all our time in there we wanted something brighter

a lot of the paint websites- benjamin moore, dutch boy, etc- have room set-ups where you can pick a room similar to what you have and design it- with trim, ceiling color and walls- it makes it easier to decide- good luck!

i used a lot of of the pottery barn BM colors as I too would like to just live there. that helped me narrow it down a little.

I couldn't have said it better. We picked paints based on bedding/furniture for the rooms that we had it for, and then just went neutral with everything else.

Re: Need Tips/Suggestions

First, look at websites, HGTV, magazines, etc. Print out pictures or cut them out and save them and keep them with you at all times. This way you can refer to the pictures with what you liked in the picture, what inspired you about that picture. Maybe this weekend go & pick up paint swatches you like. Even if you never use them it doesn't matter. Then when you are in the house and you can be in the house at different times of the day, you will see how different rooms feel and how much light they get. You can always just go neutral for now and then take your time and do room by room. But most of all have fun with it. This is your new home, enjoy it!Chat Icon And of course there is always all of us here on the home board to help out with thoughts and suggestions. Lots of Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Here are some links I have saved. HTH! Chat Icon
